Help Please

03' V6 LS.
So I'm getting on the highway, I punch the gas to get around this slow poke ahead of me and merge with the speeding traffic. The car does the normal fraction of a second kinda hesitation as it changes down a gear or two to give me the acceleration, but then nothing happens! It just bogs out, I have no throttle response, the engine is still running though. I coast to the shoulder, stop. Still no throttle response. The engine is idelling really rough. Put it in park, shut the car off, then start it up again. It seems fine. put it back into Drive, step on the gas, it does the same thing, bogs out! Shut it off for a minute. start it up again and it's fine, but the check engine light is on. Anyone have any ideas of what might have happened? It's driving fine now with the light on though. I'm going to take it in, but just want to know what to expect. Please advise.

if c/e light is on should be easy to diagnose. could be bad gas or restricted intake or quite possible an issue with the electronic throttle control.

Thanks. Any other suggestions? It does seem to me like some sort of fuel system problem. I'm hoping it's not transmission related. This is the second time it's happened. The first time, the light didn't stay on. I only run 91+ Octane fuel.

It's under warranty. Who cares if they spend their money making it right?? Just take it in SOON and have them fix it! The light on means an emissions problem. Don't make it worse my driving around with a CEL on!

Just an assumption. I would say 99% of '03s are still in warranty. Apparently, you drive a lot more than the average Joe. I'd say ~28K miles per year???

yes I do drive a lot. but I'd say 99% is a little high. Even with a typical 15K/year many of these would be out of warranty considering a purchase in mid-late 02.

i got an 02 with 45,000 miles.. I drive a lot, and I'm still averaging less than 12,000 per year..

I got my years a little mixed up. I was thinking the '03s were released in Nov 03, not Nov 02. OPPS!!!

sounds like a problem with the electronic throttle control. Was the little orange wrench light illuminated when you had no power?

throttle position sensors pretty common cause for that on the 03 LS

Ding Ding Ding! LincolnTech38 is right! My dealer is saying that the Throttle Body needs to be replaced, with the TPS inside of it.
I drive a lot, and have got 103,000km on my '03. I made sure to milk my factory warranty before it expired though; solenoid pack, tranny flush,faded keypad replaced, fog lights, a few other little things. I bought my LS used at under 70,000km and have put on 40,000km in 11 months. I live in Toronto and cross the city from the east to the west end everyday for work. It's gonna cost me $420CDN + tax. $220 for the TB, $98/hr for labour, 1 hr for diagnostic, 1 hr for replacement. The Ford part is out of stock here in Ontario and has to come from Edmonton. It's gonna take a couple of days to get it.
