Me and my friend were going to replace my torque converter today but all the farther we got was to the Retainer Clips, how do you remove the rest of the universal joint. I am wondering if there are some other tools I need or something.

??????????????

Why are you removing the u joint? To drop the transmission, you need to drop the whole driveshaft. Remove the driveshaft loop at the back of the DS, and take out the crossbrace in the driveshaft tunnel. then you need to drop the gas tank a little to allow the back end of the shaft to clear the center section of the rear end. 12MM 12 point bolts hold the shaft to the pinion.

I know it sounds like alot, but it's definalty easier than removing the U-joints. I doubt VERy highly, your even gonna get enough room to drop the tranny away from the shaft going your route.

Thanks for the help, I think that way is going to be way easier by far. Only problem now is that I am going to be anxious all day long tommorow untill i get off work.

Thanks again,

B.S.

Just unbolt it right at the rear. Take the front top 2 bolts on the rear carrier then loosen the rear 2 bolts and the rear will swing back far enough to get the shaft back far enough to get the trans out.

Heres a couple of shots just to give you an idea, altjough the rear is totally removed.
