Is your issue that it's not loud enough or what? difference in spl between 115 wats and 75 watts is around 1.6dB...pretty marginal. And driving the amp to 2 ohms usually increases distortion quite a bit (check the amp's specs, I didn't). While this is an OK tradeoff for subwoofer, I wouldn't tolerate it on the other speakers. If you need louder and don't want to sacrifice SQ you may need new amp and/or speakers...and may benefit even more by just replacing your speakers with a higher sensitivity model.

whay type model would you suggest... also i currently have the subs in a sealed box i wanted to get a ported. i know it will not be as accurate as a sealed but i should produce more bass right?

It's been a few years since I've bought this kind of stuff. I'd wait for a response from one of the many experts on this board. I know there are a few installers here, too. They can recommend the right stuff for you. My LS is the first car I haven't done anything audiowise to, since it has the THX/Nav system it's not bad to begin with. And I like having the extra trunkroom for golf clubs.

As for ported vs. sealed, again it's been a while since I've tinkered here. Ported can be louder in many instances but tends to be "boomy". Issue w/LS is trunk is sealed pretty well.

I had a Buick park avenue about 10 years ago w/a well-sealed trunk. Had an installer build a bandpass enclosure with ports the extruded ~8 inches from the top of the box into the rear speaker deck. Very cool and blew rear passengers' hair up when the bass hit. Very loud, but again no awards for SQ here.

good luck

also the specs suggest that the lower the ohms the less thd?
RMS Power 4 ohm 75 x 4 / 300 x 1
RMS Power 2 ohm 115 x 4 / 600 x 1
RMS Power 1 ohm n/a / 1100 x 1
RMS Power 4 ohm bridged mono 230 x 2 / n/a
THD 2/4 ohm 0.03% / 0.5%
S/N Ratio >92dB / >91dB

Maybe someone else can jump in here but that seems VERY odd. I'm thinking they got their specs mixed up. 0.5% is common on 2 ohm and less so on a 4 ohm load.

i was thinking of getting these components but dont know if i can fit them?
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1

Joshluvsla,

Any THD below .1% is inaudible anyway so it really won't matter unless you are dealing with big money systems. The Infinity speakers are great, I have them personaly and love them. Although LS's have 6x8's up front and rear and I am not sure if they make 6x8's in the Infinity Kappa Perfects. I hope they do becuase I really want to get them. That amp you have is a beast! Powerfull and loud, yet I fail to see what you are trying to accomplish here. Do you want better sound quality, if so the Kappa Perfects will help. Do you want more bass? If so get better and larger subs. Let us know. That amp with Infinity componets and a sub should be more then enough.

thanks Jeremiah for the input well heres the thing i would like it louder and the current reference 5x7 are i believe rated at 60 or 75 watts rms and that is what iam giving them i was wondering if i did get the infinity kappas 6.1 and brought them down to 2ohms at 115 would they sound good... also i was considering getting the infinity kappa perfect 12.1 but after looking at the specs of my 10.1 and the 12.1 they are almost identical... would it really make a difference going from a 10 inch sub to a 12 same brand and like i stated almost identical specs?

Well the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 speakers are 4 ohm, so they will not be louder in that respect. I do beleve you will not hear much of a difference with going from the reference to the kappa Perfects, at least not a $400 difference. I have heard them on a great setup and they do sound better then my reference speakers, but its hard to justify the $400 tag. Just a personal opinion. Yes they sub will give you more bass. Bass is all about air movement and a 12 is about 25% larger then a 10. Sound quality will remain nearly the same.

If you have did a quality install and have the proper equipment to use those speakers to there full potential, they will sound great. But trying to add better speakers to a already shoddy setup will do nothing. I see it all day, people stuffing Alpine type R components into a 1995 Civic with a $100 Dual deck and expect THX sound! HAHA it makes me laugh, but hey that's what I get paid for.

i currently have the the stock radio but just recently bought the kenwood ddx7015 double din dvd/tuner/navi. iam assuming that it will also add to the overall sound quality...?

Do you have the Infinity components hook to the stock radio? Or do you have them amplified through that external amp? Yes the new kenwood radio will add to sound quality, it is a really good HU. From what I have seen on here, the double din radios are a total custom install, but can be done. If i can ever scrape up the $$ to put on in I will document it for everyone.

the infinity components are running thru my after market amp but the HU is stock... i already bought the Double din HU and will be installing in one week.. i also got the wood grain kit to place around the stereo to make the HU look as if it where stock... hope everything comes out well

I have the Reference 10w30 right now in a ported box at 1.65 cubes running off an amp that could power the Astrodome.. Don't play around, get a 12. I am very disappointed in the quality of bass I am getting. These trunks are built well and the seats chew up a lot of bass. I'm going to JL 12W3 next week.
