When im driving if i step on it my rpm's go up and my car sounds like its speeding up but im not. im guessing that the problem could be sparkplugs. spark plug wires or fuel injectors. Any one had this problem before?

Im not sure - but thats sounding like transmission to me. Or something in that area. THe engine is running right, hence the RPMs ut the power isnt getting to the wheels.

As for the problem.......not enough information for me to give you a good reason. You might consider being a little more specific such as stating your cars mileage (mpg), idle behavior, any CEL's, etc. But one thing I know for sure is that it isn't spark plug wires as the LS does not have spark plug wires.

Does the transmission feel like it is slipping or displaying harsh engagement? How many miles on your car? It could be any number of things causing a perceived sluggish response from your car....

I feel like Im having the same problem, my car is a lincolns ls, v6, manual shift, 74000 miles also feel like the rpm's are going higher than before and that the acceleration is not as strong as it once was, the car does not shake or anything the idle is so quiet it feels like the car is off, no vibrations, I recently had the clutch replaced maybe about 3-4 months ago, sometimes it feels like the car has the power but then sometimes it just seems sluggish, any ideas what can be causing this, ohh and my Mpg's are not that great.

i just had a problem like that
oil was leaking thru the valve cover into my fourth cyl making it misfire

DLS8K- 91000 miles on my car and yea im starting to notice my car shifts rough. 2000 v8 automatic

Take the car back to where you had the clutch installed. Sounds like it's slipping to me. You should be smelling that too.

the clutch seems fine, there is no smell to it the shift is smooth I just noticed yesturday while on the highway that when Im in 5 gear at about 85-95 mph i would say about 3500-4000 rpm the car seems like it misfires kind of like a shaking effect every second or so , I dont think its the clutch like i posted in a previous thread the car died on me last week while driving like it had no gas, It would start but idle very rough and couldnt get it to rev up. After I got it towed home I tried starting it a few hours later and it started and seemed fine, Ive been told that the fuel pump might be going out and doesnt have enough pressure, any ideas on how to check if the pump is going to give out

how do you find out wich coil pack has gone bad, can it be tooken off and checked?
when i was watching the man fix it when he pulled the coil pack out it was covered in oil so when i seen that i knew wat happened
as far as which one it is youre gonna have to check each one one at a time unless u have a scan tool thatll tell you which one as soon as you hook it up

are you low on gas when it happens???

no, i usually dont keep it under 1/2 a tank, but when the car died last week it had 1/4 of a tank, there has been a few times where yes ive drove the car practically on fumes but I really try not too. I changed the fuel filter hoping it was that. It just started to happen recently.

...valve cover gasket...check your plugs.

When it gets all herky-jerky on acceleration or hills it is almost always a misfire.

heres a trick to get the oil out take a plug out put a rag in the hole and turn the ignition .. towel should fly out.. wait till somone chimes in tho i dont kno if this is bad for your car or not tho

Hey whats up? I think i have a similiar problem to what is being discussed. I have a 03LS with approximately 24k, its an automatic V6. The car idles around 2rpm and upon stepping on the excelerator the RPMs jump up to 5, scary, the car sounds like its moving but its not. When the car is neutral, step on the pedal and the rpms climb up to 2500 which i think is the norm correct? The gas mileage has been really really bad lately, no wierd noises, no awkward vibrations, shaking or jerking. The transmission idea posted by Joeychgo seems most plausible. Would like to get some more insight on the idea from the forum before i walk into the service deptarment blind. I was thinking about taking it to autozone and let them hook it up to that portable computer, think they would be able to help?

would a pack throw a code when oil is getting in? or do you just have to open her up and take a look for yourself. how often should those gaskets or covers need to be replaced?? i replaced my spark plugs at 50K, and they had oil in them.. cleaned it out real good, but haven't looked since. I've noticed a lack of reaction time, but when it does kick in.. VROOOOOOM! :)

You won't get a code until the problem is way out of hand. Mulitple misfires and such.

The gaskets were crap from the factory from 00-02...once they are replaced with newer better gaskets you should be good.

Took it into the dealer, turns out everything was peachy, must be losing it.

Glad to hear it. I just got a chance to read your post but that is a strange problem you had. It just rapped up like that while in D5 huh?
