Hello all! I just registered. I have been on here getting answers to questions for my wife's 2004 LS V8 with 98,000 miles. I purchased the car for my wife mid December for Christmas & our22nd wedding anniversary. So we had the car for a little over a month when the vehicle went into limp mode, after a couple days of rain. Ended up replacing the PCM. 1 month later I replaced the thermostat & housing. 1 week after that I had to replace the upper radiator hose. I'm Still having issues with the fan coming on high speed. I Have bleed the system 4 times. I think I'm going to have to replace the degas tank.
So onto my question. In the last week there has been a rubbing type noise I think coming from the rear. It seems to come on about 35mph & just get louder from there. Shifting the trans does not change nor does it seem to go with rpm. I put the car on jack stands a checked differe,nt components and see nor feel anything wrong. Has there been any issues with the rear diff or transmission output shaft or driveshaft? These are the only components I can think of that spin and just keep getting faster and faster. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't forget the half-shafts CV joints, and brakes.
You really should have replaced all the plastic cooling parts at the front of the engine, as well as the degas bottle...

you can put it on jackstands and run it to help locate sounds...

If it's a grinding type of noise, I would suspact wheel bearings. If it's more of a howl, I would suspect pinion bearing. I had to do that on my old '06 to the tune of ~$825.

Be sure to turn AdvanceTrac or traction control (whichever you have) off first.

I will try jacking the car up on stands & running it. While driving the car it is hard to tell where the noise is coming from.
I know the sound is not brakes. I am leaning toward a bearing noise, possibly the wheel/hub bearings. The noise does not change with throttle input only speed.

My wife, has the most easiest solution for these types of issues .... "turns up volume"!

It's when I have to move or borrow her car, I discover I get to part with $$$ for either tires, brakes or wheel bearings.

So I finally made the time to update you on my noise. So I diagnosed it to the right side rear wheel bearing.

I had my bearing replaced without buying the whole unit at $1500.00.
Only cost about $150.00 to do just the bearing. A local shop did it.
