I searched thru 4 pages looking for the right answer, but couldn't find it or just missed it...

I have factory HID on my 03 LS & from what I understand the bulbs are D2R correct? I ordered a new set that in the listing had "D2C D2R D2S" & the ones I received have D2C listed on them. What is D2C & will these work on my LS?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, D2R is for a reflector housing. There are some minor physical differences between D2R and D2S, however, so the listing doesn't make much sense.

I've been doing some reading on other forums & it seems D2C is a direct replacement for both D2R & D2S as it has the tab for both pretty much being universal. I noticed the D2C is one of the standard bulbs now for obvious cost saving reasons, but just want to be sure they will be OK in my car. I'm not putting the bulb in a non HID housing so I'm thinking this should be OK vs. putting them in a Halogen housing via an HID kit.

Any other input is welcome.

Not sure on this but I think the difference of D2R and S is the bulb's shield. The D2r had a shield on the bulbs to help with the cut off but the d2s does not because the cut off shield is on the projector housing.

Yes the D2S is for projector which I'm not concerned with anyway as I have D2C which from everything I've read on multiple sites is a direct replacement for the stock D2R which the LS has.

Does it also have a shield?

Saying a d2s bulbs can replace a d2r doesn't seem right, but i think you can do it the other way around, replace a d2s with a d2r.If the d2C has a shield, maybe thats what they mean by direct replacement with both d2r and d2s.

I think you're reading it wrong. I said the D2C is a replacement for the D2R. The D2C is considered universal as it has a tab on each side to fit D2R or D2S.

The bulbs I have are D2C not D2S.

No, I read it right. You just said that d2c was a direct replacement for both d2r and d2s and since that replaces both, some people might get the idea that d2r and d2s are interchangeable. What i said was that you could prob put a d2r bulb in a projector(d2s) but not a d2s in s reflector hid(d2s) and the only way a d2c bulb could replace both d2s and d2r would be if it had a shield for d2r applications becuase prejectors(d2s) aren't affected by a shield on the bulb.

Yes I said D2C is a replacement for D2R & D2S (actually every site says it I'm just relaying) I never said D2S is as you said "Saying a d2s bulbs can replace a d2r doesn't seem right" not sure how you got that from what I said, but either way no big deal.

Bottom line is D2C was made universal to replace D2R & D2S, but probably isn't a good idea for D2S as that goes in a projector.

I just meant that ^^^^^

The hole is an easy fix, just dremel a slot there to make it fit, but does it have a shield on the bulb?

Not sure what hole you're talking as it is a direct replacement & no mod is needed. No it doesn't have the shield on the bulb which would probably make a difference in a halogen housing, but I'm not sure about the HID housing? One of the reasons the D2C was made was so stores could stock one bulb for vs. 2 & they also save money not having to put the shield in there.

You can get either bulbs and add the hole it's missing if you got the wrong one.

Post up how the cut off changes, if at all, with these that have no shield on them. I have wondered how much of a cut of a helogen reflector would have with a d2r bulb, either way you would have to rig something up for the bulb to mount in

I think I get what your saying if I had a D2S bulb I could add the hole so it would fit on my car right? But being that I have the D2C I don't need to add any hole as it's already there.

On the 2nd part your only saying someone trying to put this bulb in their halogen housing would have to rig something up to mount it not myself as I have factory HID right?

No it doesn't have the shield on the bulb which would probably make a difference in a halogen housing, .

It will fit on your hids. The way regular bulbs mount and the d2r mount is very different. It has some weird/cool mounting
