According to http://faqlight.carpassion.info/car-oem-hid.htm#lin98mk8, the OEM bulb on the 97/98 Marks was an Osram Sylvania D1 reflector, the color temperature of which, as measured by K, Sylvania reports as 4150 degrees -- at least according to http://www.sylvaniaautocatalog.com/new_sylvania/ProductBrowse_DataChart.asp

all "standard" factory HIDS are 4000- 5000k,usually 4500k range
Anything higher is too blue to look like factory.
