High Mileage Synthetic Oil vs Normal Synthetic

Some say there is. I haven't noticed any difference with certainty. If there is, it's pretty marginal.
If you have no oil leaks now, I certainly would not use the high-mileage oil! It might speed up the onset of leaks.

No oil leaks other than the valve cover gaskets! Which won't be leaking much longer my new set of gaskets arrive on Monday. I have also recently dropped the oil pan and cleaned it up and installed a new pan gasket.

I don't trust the high mileage oil... synthetic or not. They usually have some sort of additive that swells seals and gaskets to slow down or stop leaks. But in the long term it causes those seals and gaskets to fail quicker.

I'm also suspect of Mobil 1's "Annual Protection" oil. That just seems too long to protect against contaminants floating around through all of those tiny passages and clearances.

Here's their warranty page for the above mentioned oil. They leave themselves alot of "wiggle room" for their responsibility... and even say for factory vehicle warranty coverage,,, to maintain factory service intervals.

If you have a high mileage engine and are concerned about wear or excessive oil consumption that isn't caused by leaks... the only thing I would recommend would be to go to a slightly thicker oil. Whether or not you use synthetic is up to you,,, but some people have switched from regular to synthetic and had issues with leaks from that point forward.

In my applications, oil filter life expectancy is the determining factor on when to change the oil. When my oil starts to darken, that tells me that the filter is no longer working. That's usually at around 3-4K miles.
