Hood lifters - how do install new ones?

My hood lifters are shot. I need a prop to keep the hood up now. Bought new ones but don't quite understand how to change them out. Anyone have step-by-step instructions especially with digital pics to show me how to change them on my 1992 Lincoln Continental?

changed the ones on my Navi about 2 months ago, hope yours are the same. There should be a metal clip around the tip on both ends. You have to take something small and flat (like a screwdriver, butterknife) and pop that clip out then you can pull the lifter off.
