Hey guys:

I've got a 2000 LS6 with a manual gear box. Car is mint with one exception. It takes way too much gas. My last car was 95 Camaro Z28 pushing 415 Lbt and was not as bad.

I know two other guys with 6's and they both get about 350-375 miles on a full tank. I can't get more than 250! Premium fuel, tires are Michelin Pilots with 34psi, plugs are new, fuel filter is new, oil is clean, rear end fluid, all the maintence I should do. In Ontario we have an manadtory emmisions program and the car barely registered so it's running clean. I drive light to normal; I got my wife's focus to beat on......

Where do I start? :L

dude i feel your pain iam having the same problem i have a 00LSV8 and iam getting about 270 for a full tank thats bad!!

Clogged air filter? (Usually the number one reason for bad gas mileage).
Extra weight in car?
Resting your left foot ever so slightly on the brake pedal?
Brakes dragging?
Wheels out of alignment?
Driving with windows down?
Thermostat stuck in open position?
Big Sears luggage carrier on top? LOL

Just drove 1600 miles and my 2000 V6 got over 440 miles every tank. (Highway mileage of course).

Drop your PSI down to 30 where it should be. How many miles does it have on it? I would suggest looking at your air filter. It might not hurt to get a fuel system flush which cleans out your intake, injectors, and fuel lines. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to give the injectors a look.........faulty/leaking injectors have a tendancy to affect gas mileage.

Dare I ask, where do you drive your car........highway or city or both? I would also try calculating your gas mileage by hand next time (if you don't already). Some people have had problems with their car's calculations if you do a search for it. Best of luck!

Hey guys, 1/2 city, 1/2 hwy. I got a K&N air filter in there. The only wieght is a single 10' sub enclosure, not bad. 30 PSI? Won't that make it worst?

Factory recommendation *on the door* recommends 30psi cold.. I put 35 in mine since the tire rating on the 17" chromes *01 v8 sport* is 44 psi.. I am getting 18-19 city 23-26 highway. track it by hand next time, I have had issues with mine not reading right before *had bad sulfur in gas issue*.

I have a 00lsv8 and am getting 17mpg city and 25 hwy. I run 36 psi and the car is completely stock.

Damn, these cars are pigs hunh? I have a buddy who has a 2002 Deville DTS and he gets 19mpg city and 28hw. The car is also a couple hundred pounds heavier then the LS as well. It also only has a 4spd auto tranny. I wounder why the LS gets such bad mileage. :eek2:

Right now i drive a 98 Camaro SS 6spd and i get 19 city and 29 hw it also has around 400hp. :N :monkey:

I am of the opinion that the LS is a highly stressed tiny V8. As long as you drive easy it probbably does fine but when you drive hard or do a lot of stop and go, the mileage dumps.

On a stop and go short commute, my 04 LSV8 gets almost the same mileage as my old Chebby that weighed at least 500#s more, had a 4spd auto and a old tech pushrod 350 V8.

I am disappointed in the LS mileage so far. It ain't terrible, my 94 F250 4x4 with 460 and 4.10 gets worse, got to pay $3.39 last week to tank up with 92 so I could tow my trailer, yeow. But it is a far cry from many other similar size/performance cars it seems least as far as gas mileage.

Just my gas crunched opinion,

lets see I have a 02 ls v6 sport with sst.
if I let the pcm shift the trans in d5, it gets 13 city, and 19 highway.
If I shift it in sst mode, it gets 16 city and on the last trip it got 24 highway (that was with two 200+lb adults, a 145 lb child and a 90 lb child, plus the trunk was literaly packed solid with clothes and a food cooler full of ice.)

oh and I run my tires at 36psi cold all the time.

Ok, so back to the point. Some LS's (V6) get decent gas Milage, some suck. Mine is one that sucks. I just cleaned the air filer yesterday. Like I say, new plugs, fuel filter, good tire pressure, drive light. What else should I look at doing?

I kind of wonder if the electric parking brake might drag a bit. Mine has the electrics and when I first start off, it takes a bit of gas to break them loose. I wonder if they don't retract all the way and thus drag?

My car was originally in Hawaii, so rust might be a suspect. I need to get some time to inspect my brakes etc. Those electric brakes have bothered me, a mental foible of mine.

I keep having a problem believing I am getting such low mileage in comparison to heavier lower tech cars I have owned, I keep wondering if it might be some mechanical issue rather than a tiny engine being worked hard. Maybe my brakes are dragging, just like my godmother used to do all the time, har har.
