A couple of nights ago on "the Factor", Bill O Rielly was discussing Ms. Rice as secretary of state.
He felt the job should go to someone who most world leaders knew and could deal with.
His choice was Bill Clinton.
For once, Mr. O Rielly and I agree on something.
Clinton certainly has the experience to deal with foreign governments.
He is known throughout the world.
He is good at negotiating policy.
He certainly has the chrisma of a leader.
I think He would be an excellent choice for secretary of state but, I think ole Bushie Boy is afraid He would be up-staged by Clinton.

On the surface this may sound like a good idea, but I think this would be damaging for Hillary running in '08. The likelihood of Bill accepting such a position would probably be close to nil, but this is only my opinion. Personally I like the idea if Clinton were committed, but if Bush and Clinton didn't see eye to eye on an important foreign policy issue, Bill would probably bolt, and that would damage Bush and the Republicans. Too many what-ifs. But it does make me wish that something like this would happen. Maybe Joe Lieberman? That's probably too risky as well, being Jewish and all.

Kbob,

I'm curious why you think is would be risky to have a Jewish SOS?

The same reason anyone else would: the Middle East.

That would imply that all Jews are supporters of Israel. You could not be further from the truth. I am a Jew and I only care about Israel because of it's strategic location, not it's population.

I have about as little in common with an Israeli and I have with my South African descendants, or my Russian or Polish or German descendants.

To state that a Jew would think differently than any other SOS is just plain ignorant.

I don't think the issue is if a jewish SOS supports the state of Israel or not. The mere fact that they are jewish carries alot of baggage in the middle east and many other places as well. History shows to think otherwise is ignorant.

It's disturbing you, or anyone, don't care about the population of any country as they are the ones who are affected by the actions of others they have little or no control of.

Right or wrong if you are a jew the world looks little further. Othodox, reform, practicing, non-practicing,etc.. All jews need to realize they are in the same boat and muslims are out to sink it. They don't care where you live, what you consider yourself to be, are a liberal or a conservative. That goes for all of us living in a non-muslim state as well.

As the worlds problems are now primarly being generated by muslims seeking to remake the world in their image we should have a SOS they will respect and listen to which means at the very least a man who speaks arabic and understands where they are comming from.

Are you implying that Condi won't be able to deal with Arabs because she is a woman? Does Powell speak Arabic? He does speak Yiddish.

I'm not saying that I don't feel for the people of Israel. I'm saying that I feel the same about them as I feel about the people of any other country. To me, the Fundamentalism in Israel is just as bad as the Fundamentalism in any other religion. People need to open their minds a little. If your God is the one true God then everyone else is wrong. How absurd.

You know, I'm getting a little tired of your antics. It seems all you want to do is pick fights by baiting people with questions. To that I am going to coin one of your favorite phrases: "how lame". I replied to the originator of this thread in good faith, in a friendly, non-confrontational manner, just openly discussing a topic. I knew where you were going when you asked me that question, and of course you took the worst possible interpretation of it. My comment about a Jewish SOS being risky was not due to the their personal beliefs on Israel, but on the Arab states' reaction to the SOS. At this point in time, a Jewish SOS would probably be looked at as Zionist in nature by those nations, even though it would not be. And in my opinion, that would probably inflame the region even more. I would personally support Joe Lieberman if he was chosen, but I was just pointing out the obvious. Sorry you missed it. Troll some place else please.

I'm stating, not implying, that an arabic speaking male familiar with the culture would be more effective in dealing with the middle eastern nations than a person not having these traits. Anyone can deal with anyone, this does not mean they are the best possible person for a given scenario.

I think Barry was being a little over-sensitive here. I think the statement had nothing to do with how a Jew might think or act in the SOS position. It's already felt in the world that Israel and the US are "in bed" with each other, to push the issue by having a Jewish SOS would be counter-productive politically and diplomatically.

While I applaud Dr. Rice's achievements, she's got her nose too far up GW's arse to do any good as a SOS. GW's selection of her for this position is just plain positioning another of his puppets in a place of power. I'm going to miss Powell, he is the only one in GW's cabnet that had an ounce of common sense and dared to NOT march goose-step in line w/ GWs agenda.

I think Clinton would do a much better job at keeping Americans' interests, (and NOT GW's) at the top of his agenda. However, this is exactly why it will never happen.
