Man, I was expecting to hear all sorts of fooiey about King George's speech on Wednesday. Could it be the up to 80% approval rating that the speech garnered that has you all tongue tied? Maybe it was the feeling you got seeing the true Iraqi emotions regarding our liberation of their country?

Come on. Take a swing. I haven't had any batting practice in a while and am getting a little rusty.

I can't wait to be able to start investing an additional 20% (total) of my own money into a higher rate of return investment than I am getting now. Compounded Interest. Oh, glory days!

80% of what, idiots? What a load of crap.

Quiet is spelled q-u-i-e-t.

so, you are saying that americans are all idiots, eh?

Gotta do work SOMEtime!

OK, I'll be the first to applaud the bravery of the Iraqi people for the enthusiastic turn-out for the vote. At least we have that glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel. And I'm certaily hoping this is a turning point that will lead our troops back out of Iraq. We certainly have alot of work yet to do, so LETS GET ON WITH IT!

As for BuSh's SOTU address, SSDD. Alot of BS and alot of vague promises we've heard before that have yet to be fufilled.

Regarding Social Security............ I have to laugh that this issue is being played up as a great recent revalation. When I entered the full-time workforce in '84, the big selling point for IRAs and 401Ks is that SS will not be around when I retire. I don't know about 'yall, but I'm not banking on SS for my retirement. However, now that I have a son with disabilities, I'm hoping somthing will be available from SS throughout his lifetime, and I pray that nothing bad happens between now and then that would prevent me from leaving him with enough financial security. So I do have a vested interest in the long term stability of SS.

So take a swing at this Bryan. Explain to me how BuSh's plan that diverts revenue from SS will allow the continuation of full benefits to people 55+ WITHOUT borrowing and making the federal debt larger (which he also promised to eliminate by 2009)? Then explain to me how my son, who will probably never have income to invest in a private account due to his disability, benefit from BuSh's plan of privatizing SS?

Remember, Social Security is MORE than a retirement plan!

Quite, quiet, whatever. A little nitpicky. Joey knows I was up for over 3 days.

80%. Here's the math for you. The 51% of us the had a high enough IQ to vote for Bush then add an additional 29% of people that are finally getting their heads out of their :gr_devil: 's.

IT'S MY MONEY, NOT YOURS, AND ESPECIALLY NOT THE GOVERNMENTS. IF I WANT TO CHANGE THE WAY MY MONEY IS HANDLED, IT IS MY RIGHT. WHY SHOULD I LET THE GOVERNMENT HANDLE MY MONEY, EARN AT BEST A 1% RETURN, INEVITABLY STEAL IT ANYWAY AND THEN BLOW IT ON GOVERNMENT HAND OUTS?

You lefties kill me.

GWB aka "Chicken Little". Another lie from GWB. He based his figures on the insolvency of SS based on a growth rate of 1.8% annual when historically our growth rate has been above 3%. Just another GWB bull$hit story based in outright lies and you idiots keep falling for it.

Any yes, I do think that 80% of the population are idiots to believe this fool.

Who asked your OPINION? Just answer the QUESTION, will ya?
:F

Am I to assume you don't pay taxes? Like it or not, we are all in this same boat together. Learn to get along or you'll be tossed overboard.

How can anybody say his speech was full of Lies???

"One of America's most important institutions - a symbol of the trust between generations - is also in need of wise and effective reform. Social Security... on its current path, is headed toward bankruptcy. And so we must join together to strengthen and save Social Security.

"Fixing Social Security permanently will require an open, candid review of the options... I will work with members of Congress to find the most effective combination of reforms."

He basically said he is willing to listen to ANYBODY with a reasonable solution.
So, will we be hearing Proposals from the Dem's or more Muck...

Oh yeah, and somebody please feed ED Kennedy another Scotch!!!!!!
"OK, The election is over, now lets get our troops home" WTF????
We can't pull out now... We're in for another year a least to ensure the democratic processes are taking hold and to stave off the insurgents.

"In the long term, the peace we seek will only be achieved by eliminating the conditions that feed radicalism and ideologies of murder. ...The only force powerful enough to stop the rise of tyranny and terror, and replace hatred with hope, is the force of human freedom."

AMEN TO THAT... I thought it was a Brilliant Speech and delivered wonderfully. Emotions were high and I think America is strong!!!

^^^^^^^^^^^another liberal drone^^^^^^^^^^^
come on, keep comming up with insults, and stating statistics where they dont belong...you do know that there is no "growth" ...its all decline. Always was, always will be. Invented during the NEW DEAL under Roosivelt, to help americans survive the great depresion. A TEMPORARY solution to a TEMPORARY problem. Everything that is imputed is immediatly taken out and sent to a recipiant of a liberal socal program. It was not stopped becasue of soldiers families during ww2, and after that...it was forgotten about...untill it devoloped new heads like welfare...turining into a big socal program monster. The pinko liberals...:cough, barry2952, cough:... ranted and moaned about it disennfranchising the country...so no one wanted to lose the votes, so it stayed. Long story short, uber leftists ruined another good thing AGAIN.

Yes, another glimmer of hope for GW here. At least he is admitting that his initial plan isn't going to work and has stated that he's open for ideas. However, ACTUALLY BEING open to ideas is yet to be seen. ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS.

Or at least I hope you do.

All in jest.

If I offended you, I hereby formally and sincerely apologize.

Here's how I see it. Bush gives a State of the Union address which receives one of the highest approval ratings in history and the major media in the country say nothing. They are not interested in reporting the news. They are only interested in advancing their agenda. People are seeing this. Did you watch Dan Blather on SeeBS? He once again embarrassed himself with his liberal partisanship.

As a father with 4 sons, I want my kids to be able to control as much of their money as possible. I can't and won't trust the government with it.

The height of hypocrisy is when Clinton brought up this very subject in 1997. He said Social Security was in dire straights and something needed to be done. Now the Democrats say nothing needs to be done, only because a Republican is advancing the agenda. That is the ONLY reason they are opposing it. The system is broke. Our country is aging and living longer. There are not enough people paying into the system to support the people taking the money out. There will be no money for my kids. If only I could have that 12%, my kids and their kids would be set for life. Especially if the legislation holds that allows one to pass on any remaining assets in a retirement account tax-free to another generation.

MonsterMark,

You do not owe me an apology. Your discourse is sharp and reasonable. Others are not so sharp.

I'm not greedy and I'm not a Liberal. I, unfortunately, fall into the 40-54 year old bracket of people who will get reduced benefits but will not be eligible for private savings under GWB's SS plan. It's all smoke and mirrors and you keep falling for it.

I've paid into the SS system the maximimum for the last 20 years. I have contributed over $250,000 to the system and now GWB wants to solve his problem by reducing my benefit. If that's greed then so be it.

Just another reason I'm not happy with this man's pitiful performance. "Worst President Ever"

And under the current system, that $250,000 will be worth only $300,000, maybe $350,000. What's wrong with taking a portion of that 12%, say 3% and let that money earn a higher, compounded rate of return so that when you do retire, the total pot of your money will have grown to $500,000 - $600,000 dollars. And he doesn't want to reduce your benefit, he wants the money being put into the system to earn a greater return. That is the only way to deal with the reality that we have less people paying in and more taking out. The only other solution is to increase the percentage of participation from 12% to whatever. Then your overall standard of living will really decline as you will have less disposable income during your crucial years of earnings, a period representing 30-40 years.

As to Bush being a bad President, I am starting a memorial fund so we can get started carving out President Bush's likeness as the 5th President to grace the wall.

Did you not listen to your brilliant President?

Private savings for those under 40. No cuts in benefits for those over 55. I'm 53. Do the math. What do we get? Screwed. Great idea GWB. Screw the biggest voting block. Real smart. Oh yeah, he can't run again so it doesn't matter.
