How do I reactivate ac compressor on 06 Lincoln LS V-8 after car overheats

Today my 2006 Lincoln LS V-8 overheated, which triggered the fail-safe cooling system to engage and subsequently caused my ac compressor to shut down to protect the engine. I corrected the problem with the engine overheating, but that did not automatically cause my ac compressor to re-engage. How do I reactivate the ac compressor? Is there a reset switch somewhere or a fuse or breaker that needs replaced? I am thinking that it can't be too complicated to reactivate since the fail-safe cooling system is a built-in feature that automatically shuts it down.

Is the check engine light still on? Clear it off. Usually the ac will happily kick on after engine temps return back to normal. Maybe a dccv failure may have occurred. Do you hear the compressor click on when you push the ac button? Also check to make sure the temp on the HVAC unit is not set to 90 degrees. Set it to 60.

I had a diagnostic run and the check engine light reset after I fixed the overheating issue but that didn't reset the compressor. The engine temperature is back to normal and my ac temp is set to 60 on both the driver and passenger side. I have found many articles that talk about the fail-safe cooling system causing the heat and air unit to shut down when the car overheats, but none of them address how to reverse it once the overheating issue has been resolved.

There's nothing to reverse or reset. You have some fault with the climate control now. It's possible that the overheating was the last straw for the DCCV, or something else. You need to move on to troubleshooting your new problem and stop trying to tie it to the failsafe cooling.

Is your problem that the AC isn't cooling (warm air coming out) or that it is heating (hot air coming out)?
