This is going to sound dumb to some but here goes anyway. I understand that the Mark VIII is a four speed but my stick shift console reads D,2,1 and that counts for three, of course there is that little button for overdrive but really, does that count? My TrailBlazer has D,3,2,1 and that to me is logically a four speed since they are all there for counting. If I was manually shifting I would only have three placements for that stick shift in the Mark as oposed to four placements on my TrailBlazer, so why do they call it a four speed? :steering

my guess here may be way off ,but your trailblazer sounds like it has 4 gears,no overdrive (ie.nothing numerically lower than 1:00 to 1 ratio)

The marks are 4speeds with 4th gear being "over" drive as in less than 1.00 to 1 ratio (.70 to 1?)

Both are 4 gear tranny's
yes ,you count the button because it is a complete other gear in the trans.

if you manually shift, you do 1->2, 2->3, and then you hit the little button to go to fourth. and, yes it counts. Just because it doesnt have a physical position for shifting, doesnt make it not there.
