This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual
manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax
money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency
did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of it's
releases.

A.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E.

A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government
is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...

let's take a look at New Orleans ..

It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS to rebuild New Orleans.

Interesting number...what does it mean?

A.

Well ... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man,
woman, and child) you each get $516,528.

B.

Or... if you have one of the 18 8,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets
$1,329,787.

C.

Or... if you are a family of four...your family gets $2,066,012.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...

We had the largest middle class in the world...

and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?

Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to

press '1' for English.

What the heck happened?????

Now, multiply that by a thousand and you'll have about the same price as the so-called Stimulus plan in congress right now.

$1,000,000,000,000.00

1 trillion seconds ago equals 31,546 years ago.

If you stacked a trillion dollar bills into a pile, it'd be 68,000 miles high.

If you spent a million dollars every day since Jesus was born, you have only spent about 3/4 of a trillion dollars.

Gordon Liddy always refers to "thousand million" instead of "billion" when he talks about money (at least he used to; I haven't heard his show in a long time). His explanation was that a "billion" is such a large number that people can't get a handle on it, but "million" is still small enough to comprehend. He explains it thusly:

Most people can grasp how much $1,000 is. If you spend $1,000 per day, it will take you about three years to spend $1 million dollars. Now, if you stay with millions, it will take you 3,000 years to spend $1,000 million, or $1 billion.

So, who wants to try to spend $1 million million dollars at $1,000/day? Dunno about you, but I'm sure I have better things to do with the next 3 million years...

Or alternatively with 300 million americans a billion is roughly $3.33 per person.
A trillion would be $3333.00 per person.
If you say there's only 200 million taxpayers it translates into $5.00 and $5000.00 respectively.

how many zero's in a billion? depends on who's billion. british is bigger.
