How much oil?

Have a 2003 Deville, and i changed my oil due to engine overheating. Service manual i have recommends 7.5 quarts, I added that amount but it seems low on dipstick. should i add another quart?

My 1998 Deville takes an even 8 quarts... 1/2 a quart is held by the new filter.

I believe on the northstar's it should sit in the middle of the range not all the way to the top line. I just got a 03 deville myself but from what I've read going over the recommend 7.5 often causes oil consumption.

Agreed. I just got mine recently and when I used over 7.5, it seems to be consuming oil much faster. Guess it is best to stick to what the manual suggests.
