i just saw a thread about the guy who's car got stolen and totaled and how his insurance didnt cover theft and they never caught the guy etc. a few people i know did this...

Go to bestbuy and buy a boost mobile phone. an i425 (E or T, they are like the same thing)

Open up the phone and activate it VIA THE WEBSITE and make sure you uncheck the box that says wireless web access or w/e make sure you uncheck ANY EXTRA :q:q:q:q so you dont get charged for it.. the phone should come with a 5 dollar card and that should last you 90 days..

You will need to go to www.accutracking.com and register/sign up..
select the simple app to download to your pc..

Sign up on this website and download the software to link your cell phone to your pc..
http://developer.motorola.com/docsto...enjal/openJAL/

You will need a usb to mini usb cable to connect the phone to the pc...

Upload the accutracking app from your pc to your phone.

Run the app.. then log into accutracking.com and it will ask you for your boost mobile number.. input it then it will give you a tracker id.. input the tracker id into the boost mobile phone and give it a little time to load everything up and voilla you have a working gps system..

There are two plans to choose from on accutracking.com 4.99 basic which only shows where the gps is and where its been.. or 7.99 premium which shows where it is.. where its been.. how fast its been going little :q:q:q:q like that...

FIRST MONTH IS FREE!!!! it doesnt even need a CC to activate first month and the website does not automatically recharge your cc..

heres a pic of my buddy parked then in his driveway 1 minute later...

you can add a password to the app you can make it run when you open the phone you can set how often you want it to update.

You need to realize that this isnt a joke and if you use this software to track someone illegally you WILL go to jail and the JUDGE WILL TOSS THE BOOK AT YOU.. YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS ISNT A JOKE..

So if you think your gf is cheating on you dump her.. dont use the phone to track her..

You can wire up the phone to the cars electrical system so the battery doesnt run out..

The battery lasts a good 6 hours it will last longer if you set it to send every 2 minutes or every 5 or 10 minutes

You can safely purge data from the website.. (say you go somewhere and dont want anyone to know.. you just select the date and time you want it to start.. and date and time you want it to end.. and itll delete the data..)

You can also set a fence.. so if your car leaves that spot it will text you or email you..

I also think theres an option to alert you when the car moves..

So gmail notify with a gmail account at your work = instant alert that your car is moving..

You can also buy the phones with the software preuploaded on accutracking.com

its cheap, and its easy, and will let you find where your car is and has gone if it gets stolen. i was going to do this for myself but right now i live in an association neighborhood surrounded by old people and rarely ever go anywhere that would put my car in a position to be stolen. i know i might get flamed for saying that because you car can get stolen anywhere etc etc but we get so many tourists because of the beaches a thief would be way more likely to steal a car from someone that isnt from around here.

The only problem with this idea (good as it may be), a lot of phones don't have a sensitive enough GPS receiver that works well (if at all) in say, a trunk or under a seat.

Friend of mine is a Symbian developer, and he's developing an app (I have a stable beta on my E90 Communicator - I know, it's a damned brick, but it comes in handy when I run out of ammo, as I can throw it at someone and hurt them with it) that allows the owner of the phone to send a text message to the phone (or more if need be) and the phone will boot up its GPS receiver if so equipped (or use AGPS if not equipped with a proper receiver), get it's Lat Long bearings, then send them to you in a text message. This, all done in the background.

As soon as the software sees an "unregistered" SIM (a SIM card that the software does not recognize as a pre-programmed SIM card, it will automatically send a text message to two preprogrammed numbers, indicating the new SIM card number and phone number if the crook finds the phone and pops his own SIM card into it. It will then proceed to silently text message ALL incoming and outgoing numbers , as well as forward all text messages to these two preprogrammed numbers. It will also allow the real owner of the phone to either lock, wipe user data, or start ringing endlessly (comes in handy when you know you're close to your stolen phone, but don't quite know who has it), with specific text message keywords the real owner pre-programs. It does a few more things that I can't talk about, but all in all... It's a COMPLETE phone security/locator software.

I guess my point is, there are other, cheaper (some free) alternatives out there.

etc etc.

But nevertheless, your article is a good idea, as I'm sure not everyone is aware of the wonderful things technology has to offer nowadays.

I can't speak for manufactures other than Nokia, but Nokia has some very sensitive GPS receivers built into them. They don't use a SIRF III receiver, which is most common in mobile phone applications. The unit they use is made by Ti (Texas Instruments), and while a little slower in acquiring it's initial bearings, it is more sensitive than the SIRF III units, so it will work in a trunk, or even under the seat.

no way! you have a communicator lol...i thought i was the only :q:q:q:q:q:q:q to use that as back up defense...i had the the first one...9000il i believe, used it for a few years lol...i loved that thing and it would never break...i did actually throw it a few times and the worst that ever happened was that the clip on the battery that kept it in place broke off so i had to buy a new battery. the only problem i see with your links (i didnt actually read through everything but this is what it looks like to me) is that its all for the symbian os and those phones arent that cheap to buy and if you had one why would you leave it hard wired in your car? i'm not saying that what i posted is the best by any means but its cheap and according to accutracking as long as you put it behind the dash or underneath the rear window there shouldnt be a problem with signal, its when its blocked by metal (like in the trunk) that the signal gets weak. a couple people i know with it actually get a signal in a parking garage which i thought was impressive.

Yup. I has one. Two, actually, but the old one is in a drawer somewhere. A fist generation and a 2nd generation, with the microphone and keyboard fixes. You're not the only cool kid on the block, you know. :p

As far as posting only S60 links... This is what I know. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks

Next time I go to work, I'm buying one of the new Touch screen ones in England, for a friend of mine. I can't remember which one he wants. I have it in an email somewhere. It's not the Music xpress one...

i'm jealous lol...if they werent so big i'd still have one but half the time i'm in a garage and the other half of the time i'm a dj..in the garage it'd just get full of grease and :q:q:q:q and at work it'd either get broken or stolen by some drunk :q:q:q:q but if it has the locator software i guess thats no longer an issue lol

i just noticed the time on the pic and i dont want to scare you or anything but i'm in the future...like 2 hours into the future

Pffft. Wait till my time machine is out of the shop. I'm having a new googoplextinator installed. :D

i have a used flux capacitor if you need it from mine...i took it back to 1965 once and that was about it i'm parting the whole thing out, the government is tracking it so its not a good idea for me to have it too much longer.
