I know this has nothing to do with this club at all, but my thought's and prayers go out to all those who have been displaced or have family down there. The scenes down there look devasting and I can't imagine having to deal with something like this. I surely hope that our Goverment will do what ever they can to assist these people in there needs. Our country has always helped other countries in dealing with there natural disasters, let's see what other countries decide to help us in our time of need.
 
I agree I live in florida and We got hit pretty hard last year but those people are way worse I pray that nobody from this site was there or has family there Im watching the news right now and those people are going through so much and then to see how long its going to take to get life back to normal. I hope and pray that other countries come to help also I know Florida Highway Patrol sent a bunch of troopers out there this morning Our hearts and prayers go out to all of them
 
I saw the news on tv and it makes me sad , to see what has happened to those people. I have no family down there but my thoughts and prayers go to those who have lost family and are displaced.

they called him and sed his house is under water completly man thats bad
 
i have to ties with any of the parts that got hit, but man let me tell you my prayers go out to those who do. i wish i could do something for them. im going to give blood this weekend. maybe we as a community (LVC) should do that to help out as little as we can.
 
I am in Madison, Mississippi just north of Jackson. We are about 190 miles from the MS Gulf Coast. 97% of the power is out in our area. The hurricane was just at the edge of a category1 - category2 when it went through my city. Almost everyone I know has no water and no electricity. My water never went out and my power was only out for about 24 hours. Two little known problems are that Gas is all but impossible to find. When you do find it, you have to wait about 2 hours. The other is that cell phones are practically worthless during a disaster like this. Most of the cellular infrastructure is gone.

I certainly feel like I am one of the fortunate ones. It is hard to bitch too much when basically all I have been is inconvenienced when others have lost everything.

I have a friend and his family staying at my house since we now have power. Their power is supposed to be back on on Sept. 14th. He also lives in this area, not on the coast or in New Orleans, so I can only imagine what that will be like. We have still not been able to contact family that lives in Columbia, MS. They are about 120 miles from the coast. All reports are that there is no power, water, phones, or cell phones in that area.
 
One story that will really put things in perspective is about a friend of mine who is 70 miles closer to the coast.

When I spoke to him on a cell phone during a brief period of cell service, he had been waiting 2 1/2 hours to get gas so he could take his 9 month old daughter to the Emergency room for her 103 degree fever. Talk about feeling helpless. And this is still someone who just lost water, power, and phone. Everything else was still OK with his house and family.

I can only imagine the poor souls on the coast and in New Orleans.
 
I live in south Fla. and Katrina passed just south of our location. Some flooding and property damage but nothing approaching the scale of what we are seeing on the Gulf Coast. I was miserable living without electricity (and AC) for a day......Now I know how lucky I am......
 
yeah i remember last year here in FL. not cool at all, my thoughts and prayers are with not only members here and their family, but all the people who have struck by this tragedy.
 
Yeah its really bad. I live in Mobile, AL and we were hit pretty hard. Nothing as severe as our neighbors in Biloxi only 50 miles away. But it is mind numbing. I have friends that have lost almost everything they had. One friend lost his house and his business. They took their valualbe items and keepsakes and left in plenty of time.

Here in Mobile there is no gas available. NONE. Schools dont resume until further notice because of the shortage of gas. Businesses are closed because their employees have no way to get to work.

The impact on the economy of the US is going to be enormous. Over 1/3 of the nations oil was supplied through 2 of the pipelines off the coast of Louisiana that are inoperable. Mississippi's economy is going to suffer severly as well because of the loss in revenues from the casinos being ruined. And they are talking about not rebuilding already unless the state laws are changed.
 
Glad to hear that you didn't get the full shot. Do you have power? How about phones? I'm trying to call friends in Mobile and Dothen and the phone just rings.

Are you seeing what's going on in New Orleans? Don't know if the TV stations are up and running. As bad as it must be in Mobile, New Orleans looks like a 3rd world country.

Keep the faith...our illustrious pres. says help is on the way...

Those people that really need the help would be better off if all those other pieces of sh!t would stop shooting at relief helicopters, shooting up police stations, raping innocent people walking down the street, and robbing homes and businesses.

I hate to say it but there are a lot of people there that I have absolutely no sympathy for, and of course they seem to be the ones who weren't hurt or killed by the storm.
 
Here in Mobile today, 2 people were beaten waiting at a gas station. An elderly woman was run over by a car. There was one stabbing. 4 people unholstered a firearm. All of this over gasoline.

All I can say is I am glad I wasnt in line for gas when someone unholstered their piece because I would have shot them since my 7 month old would have been with me.

Granted, they have been down there without supplies for several days now, however, that does not give them an excuse to rape women and children, kill people, and shoot at people trying to help them. When it comes down to it, most of the people down there who couldn't get out are used to doing that sort of thing anyway, so to them, its not really that out of character. This may sound harsh, but instead of spending their welfare checks on booze, cigs, and potato chips, they should have saved some of it for a rainy day....you know, to buy a bus ticket or something.......not a gun to shoot people trying to help.

Damn, that's harsh. Suppose all of those old people and children that you saw on TV were busy looking for booze and chips too.What...no cracks about "fried chicken and watermelon " ???? Certainly there are criminals and whackos there, but mostly its people in a bad situation trying to save themselves. Glad that we have you on board to decide who lives and who doesn't. Hope that you and yours remain safe and high and dry and never need help.

I dont want to get into it..........but what I see on TV is people in anarchy. I don't care what the situation is. There is no excuse to rape women and children or for looting the stores down there. It is people in a bad situation doing bad things. That is the brutal truth......it is not harsh nor do i decide who lives or who dies. And where does the racism come into this? Fried chicken and watermelon.........did i ever say anything about race? Does everything always have to be about race?

So what are you saying? Are you saying the people down there are only black? Thats what it sounds like to me!

If i said anything untrue, than you can talk to me like you did. But, answer me truthfully, did i say anything untrue?
 
One of the main problems down there is that the local and state governments are "third world" compared to the rest of the US. The New Orleans Police Department is really pathetic. The officiers are underpaid and lack the training, resources and personnel to deal with something like this.
 
I hope I don't get anyone mad on here and I don't mean to get into an argument, but I've been wondering about a few things with the New Orleans people?

Can someone tell me why these people did not leave the city I mean It was obvious from all the news coverage the New Orleans was going to get sacked.
I understand that some of these people are disabled or don't have money...
but that's less then 1% of those I've seen on TV. 99% of those I've seen seem able to walk. In any other country, people would of thrown what they had on their backs and walked their asses out of there, before and NOW!/
I don't seem to sound harsh but I don't understand where all this criticsm for the federal gov't is coming from.
Think about it, all of the criticsms..one of the criticisms is that there is no food. If your going to a shelter why wouldn't you take a supply of food for yourself. If you have a medical condition why wouldn't you take a week's supply of it.
It seems that everyone there is expecting the gov't to provide for them. Bill O'Reilly rightly pointed out that if you realy on the government your likely to be dissapointed.

Someone brought up the issues of rape, murder and shooting at helicopters and ofcourse looting. I frankly don't see the former two not really a big deal, in every metropolitan city that's a daily reality. But why the hell are they looting non life sustaining products what are you going to do with a TV? Ohh and shooting at helicopters, yeah that's a good idea. I mean what's wrong with you, i guess they're really mad because they couldn't score any crack.


-Anyways thanx, just venting and expressing an opinion that in other places I wouldn't feel so comfortable expressing. My best wishes are with all those people helping.
 
as far as people getting out b4 it hit. think about it. theyve been through some hurricanes b4 but and survived. this wasnt predicted to be as big as it was. would u just pack up and leave all u know. i know i would be one of the peolpe stuck there, cause theres no way id leave my house. now if they would have said that it would have done what it did. yeah id go.
another things you have to take into consideration is how these people lived b4 it hit. N.O.. is a very poor city. they dont have all the things most of us are accustome to. alot of them dont have cars so they couldnt leave.
and as far as the theiving this is re-god-damn-diculuos. you whole state is in ruins and ur robbing people and killing people. these people are really making themselves look bad. were trying to support them in anyway possible and theyre stealing pants from the mall and tvs. where the hell are gonna watch a tv. its just terrible that this is waht comes out of a crissist like this.

Walking out of N.O. to reach safety would be an impossiblity, due to the geographical scope of the disaster. There was obviously a failure on the part of the government to assist in the mandatory evacuation. Simply announcing it prior to the hurricane wasn't sufficent. In retrospect, every bus and train in the city should've been mobilized to provide transportation out, for those without their own means of transportation. (Wherever "out" would be.) Following the disaster, the majority of folks did exactly as instructed, in terms of going to the Superdome, Convention Center, etc. Obviously, there was a breakdown there as well. Overall, it was a logistical nightmare, due to the lack of planning for such an event. That said, I think Americans generally have an attitude of "it won't happen here or to me". As an example, how many of us are prepared for an emergency situation, particularly given the ongoing threat of terrorism? How many of us live in an earthquake-prone area, on the coast, in a major urban area, near a nuclear power plant, chemical plant, etc? Ask yourself the question, "Am I sufficiently prepared for such an event?" Surely, we shouldn't expect our government to "take care of us". They've demonstrated time and again how far they fall short of doing so. It's a fact that the Social Security system that we've paid into for so many years will not meet our needs in the coming years. Consequently, many of us have prepared for the future, independent of the government, as best we can. By the same token, it's really up to each one of us to do what is necessary to take care of ourselves- to have a plan. Sad to say, most American households don't have a battery-powered radio, a case of bottled water, some canned food or even an extra set of batteries for their flashlight... yet we are critical of the lack of action taken by those of the lowest economic strata there in N.O.
