Before all the info and hype comes out about them, i want to hear what everyone thinks will come of these tapes. Incase you dont know about them: there are 3 tapes found that video Hussein and his cronies disgussing diffrent issues involving their connections with WMD's behind closed doors(namely Nuclear WMD's). They have all been authenticated as the real deal. They were taped between, i believe, 1995-2000 They will be officially released to the public within the next few days, if not tonight. <i forget which day it is. Sorry for the sketchey details, but i just want to hear everyones oppinion on what will come of them.

The republicans will hail them as the proof needed to support the war in IRAQ and proof of WMD's.

The Democrats will say that they are fake and since no WMD's were ever found, that it may have just been a bunch of fanatics bragging to each other about nothing.

If they are verified as real why would anyone doubt them? The fact that he, at one time had WMD, doesn't justify what we've done in Iraq. Did you expect him to just leave them lying around?

I still contend that, if they still existed, they certainly would have been used by now. Do you really think that these virgin-desiring whackos would care whether they used C4 or a killer virus?

mr hussein and his buddies are disgussing how to use these wepons and how to hide it from the world, just because he may or may not have had them at the time of invasion, is irrelivant to the justification. Saddam is caught on tape talking about the proliferation of his own nuclear wepons program. Do you think that by letting him be that we would not have to deal with them in the future?

I disagree on this point, because I believe that there is still a very high chance that they may still be used. I believe that as a last act of desparation, they will be used against our own soldiers, and then we can all regret that the first GWB did not finish the job in the first place.

No, I did not expect him to just let them lying around. I expected him to send them to Syria, or some other American hating country. I never try to justify what we are doing in Iraq, war almost never has a justification. I personally do not believe that we are any safer now than before we went in, but I do believe in the president that I voted for and will never try to second guess what his motives are. Do I think that future generations of Americans will be safer because we went into Iraq?? Yes I do.

I am a staunch Republican, but I will tell you that if the Democrats put forth a viable candidate, not a traitor like John Kerry, I will vote for him. It proves to be a very sad state of affairs when our elections are a matter of picking the lesser of two evils. I do not vote party line, never have, never will. I let my conscience be my guide, and as an ex Marine, I could not in all good conscienciousness vote for Kerry. Give me a candidate, and I will give you a vote.

I have relatives in Iraq at this very moment. And in talking to them, they tell me that almost to a person, all of the everyday Iraqis that they come into contact with, thank them for being there.

Have to agree......

I have to agree with you on this one Mr. Wilson. I have not seen the tapes yet, but if that is the content, then I believe it to be much better to stop the beast before he brings down his quarry than to wait until after he gorges himself on it.

That has to be the most ridiculous, implausible, absurd statement that anyone has ever made. Keep up your battle. It is entertaining.

Would you care to explain why that is ridiculous, implausible and absurd? One of the ongoing debates in this forum has been that Saddam was disarming and that the UN resolutions were working. Possible proof of this, no WMD's have been found as of yet.

If they turn out to be the 'smoking gun', they just might serve to unite both parties to one similar goal and that would be a good thing.

Nothing will ever unite the parties....well, atleast the "leadership" of the parties. All politicians are out for #1. Both sides could realy care less about what we think, unless it means they wont be re-elected. Hopefully it will convince the public to unite together, mabey then some good will come from politics.

Here is the ABC report on it....dont bother listening to the commentary afterwards.

A spokeswoman for John Negroponte, director of national intelligence, said information contained in the transcriptions of the tapes was already known to intelligence officials.

"Intelligence community analysts from the CIA, and the DIA reviewed the translations and found that, while fascinating, from a historical perspective the tapes do not reveal anything that changes their post-war analysis of Iraq's weapons programs nor do they change the findings contained in the comprehensive Iraq Survey group report," she said in a statement.

That pretty much sums it up, nothing new to be learned here.
