I have started pulling the fan actuator out of cars at the U-Pull yard, just in case I need one. I was wondering if anyone knew of a test out of the vehicle to see if the actuator is good or not. Or does anyone know how these things actually function?
Here is what I think I know. I have a used actuator but I do not know if it is good. I did look at the wiring diagrams and it looks like the actuator is a solenoid, with the negative side to be on the side of the small tab that points at the contacts on the actuator. Being a solenoid I suspect that it must switch on and off and if it does this, then there most likely will be a noise made when power is applied to the solenoid. i.e., I suspect I should hear a click with power applied.
So does anyone know of a test that can be done to see if the actuator will work? Or does anyone know better what these things actually do? And, if one does not work, is there a way to repair or re-manufacture it?
