Could someone explain to me how the hydraulic pump and the fan suppose to work on a 02 Lincoln Ls 3.9 V8
Do the fan supposed to run constantly with the hydraulic pump?
Or do the fan come on after the thermostat reaches a certain temperature?

It is supposed to be turning all of the time, relatively slowly when cold, as temperature climbs, or if A/C is on, then the fan will proceed to high speed, but I think it is variable unless A/C is on or engine is hot, then it should be full speed. If you are wondering because your fan doesn't seem to be getting the job done and you have a tendency to overheat, then the usual culprit is the solenoid on the pump. Mine failed and the results were, fan turns but cannot flush enough air through everything to keep the engine from overheating, unless the car is going highway speed.

Well maybe theres something wrong with the fan because the fan isn't turning at all. Is there a main fuse for the fan or the solenoid. I feel like if the fan isnt spinning then it could be a problem with the fan. any thoughts?

Hydraulic fan:
It won't be a fuse. Even with a bad actuator, the fan should spin at low speed while the engine is running. It could be the hydraulic pump, or the hydraulic fan motor. (I am assuming that you have the correct Mercon (or better yet, Mercon V) ATF in the fan reservoir and that no one has added water to it.) Figuring out if it is the pump or the motor is one of the pains of this system. Most dealers just replace all of it instead of trying to figure out which part(s) is(are) bad.
Can you see any circulation in the reservoir when the engine is running?

When I start the engine the fan blades doesn't move at all and yeah i used Mercon V in the fan reservoir, yesterday I started the engine with the main line coming from the pump not hook up to the fan and fluid poured out and I also did the same for the other line thats going back to the pump and fluid poured out of that line. So the problem might just be in the hydraulic fan motor on the fan.
I think when I finally get this car running without any problems I might just find a picture frame big enough and frame it. :runaway:
