Title says it all. Last week I purchased a pair of front rotors and pads from a seller on ebay called "Brakemotive".
They shipped and did their job. Box came in today and felt light... Opened it up thinking this was a joke till I noticed the package that should of held the brake pads was opened and still in the box. The box had been ripped open and then re-taped. Its not hard to figure out by the crappy re-tapping job that someone did this in a hurry. The shipping label even says 40ibs on the box so Its not the sellers shipping department.
Contacted the ebay seller and thankfully they are helping me out with this. Contacted Fedex and they are looking into it (I have no faith in them finding out what happened)

Anytime I have to contact customer service with something that needs to be fixed in a hurry, I give the rep just enough info so they can put it into their system then Always ask for a supervisor.

For me its USPS then UPS. I never have shipped anything Fedex and now I NEVER will.

I had UPS deliver something to the wrong address and the people who got the package dropped it off at my place but never had this type of incident happen.

I've actually had better luck with FedEx over UPS, but both have been pretty even, really. USPS has improved their tracking system (somewhat), but they do deliver well, I must agree.

I think that you'll have to contact the seller about this and get them to open a claim with Fedex. The seller contracted with them, not you. Also, you contracted with the seller to get the parts to you. Even though it is Fedex's fault, it's the seller's responsibility to make you whole. The only problem is proving that you didn't get the parts and then make this up.

You are absolutely correct. I got a call back from Fedex and was instructed to have the shipper/seller file a claim against Fedex.
Since Fedex doesn't come to this small town very often im sure the driver had to have a brief thought of "hmph this feels kinda light" but didnt notice that the boxes shipping label weight said 40.4ibs

I hope someones ass gets chewed out over this because im tempted to make a youtube videos against fedex for not "taking care of their packages correctly"

Hate to be this guy, but is it possible the product was too heavy for the box... the box broke/ripped open in transit and the FedEx guy couldn't find the parts that "fell" out of the box? Might be the sellers fault for shipping 40lbs in a crappy box. Just playing devil's advocate here.

I would be inclined to agree with this as well. The facilities that these packages go through are automated. Sometimes packages get ripped open by machines and the contents get scattered, never to be reunited with their original packaging. All the carrier can do is reseal what is left and continue on with the shipment. HOWEVER, they will generally place a note that your package was damaged during shipping and that you should contact the sender upon receipt. I have had this happen with USPS and FEDEX.

It does seem fishy that the pads were gone but their box remained. Unless there was a packing list included that notated what type of car they are for I don't see a reason why someone would take pads without knowing what vehicle they are for. Maybe it says on the box? I dunno. Sorry about your situation. I'm glad the seller is taking care of you though.

Yeah the machines to sort out packages are crazy huge...but at the end of the day it's a person that loads them onto the truck by hand. Granted the deliveryman most likely didn't stop to look at the weight listed on the package, just the address where it was going to figure out where to load it in the truck.

I can tell you for sure that at USPS we're supposed to use an official sealing tape and place a notice to say 'sorry your packaging was damaged'.

Did you sign for it?

People were stealing delivered packages in my home town for a little bit. Not sure if they ever left the box, guess that could put the focus on the delivery company and off of them.

Seems like the delivery people would rather say they "lost" it than go through that trouble.

I will refuse the delivery if I get a box with damaged goods. If the box is damaged I make them wait for me to open it to confirm the contents inside. I'm not playing that game. I have done this a couple times. Opened the box find damaged merch and taped back up to return to sender.

when I bought my brake set from the groupe buy, it was sent out and the pads were not in their boxes, the boxes were flattened out and included in the box but the pads were wrapped in plastic over to the side, I assumed so that they could fit it all into the certain "if it fits, it ships" box

Long story short I use to work in a large distribution warehouse who used UPS, so I have an idea how these things work (Pick-pack/Overseas-Canadian/Overnight orders etc). The fact that the box still had the empty package for the brake pads is a dead giveaway. I understand the point of "but maybe they had to do this" which would be understandable if there was a notification of what happen. USPS did give me a damaged package one before but it was tagged and they asked if I wanted to file a claim. I declined it being odds we're the sender didnt packaged it correctly and it was something of little value (more ebay junk).

This is how I see it. There more then likely was a Product code on the rotors and The pads were originally in package with a product code. So Next steps of google it to get the make and model. Next is craigslist.

I want to avoid this coming down to the issue of competencies of humans as professionals in the work force but when I think back to being in the hospital when we had our child and how many times the nurses kept asking the same questions because they failed to check the charts on the goddam door...

I like that idea. Gonna have to adopt it.

The seller is "supposed" (because I still have yet to receive the email from the seller to reply back with the pictures of the box) to send me another set of rotors and pads and this time it will require a signature. Im still holding a claim on ebay till I either get a full refund or till I have everything installed on my vehicle. Assuming they did send out another set, they could be the wrong parts :yuck:
