I am new to Lincolns and new to this site. I'm also new to buying cars made after 1998. Two months ago, I bought a 2002 Lincoln LS V8. Car appeared to be in good shape and drove nicely...since it was a luxury car, I decided not to put my foot in the gas tank while test driving it. Upon driving it home, I filled up and noticed it sputtering. I immediately called the dealer and told him about it. His response was that I had to use 93 instead of the 87...After many cycles of 93, it still sputtered and I suspected a misfire but no check engine light. My suspicion led me to run the codes and 3 codes were found. After removing and disassembling the instrument cluster, I found that the engine light had electrical tape over it. Is there anything that I can do, or am I just outta luck because I didn't notice that no engine light came on upon starting before purchasing it??? Please Help

Most states require that Dealers offer a 90 day or 3,750 mile warranty on all cars sold. When you bought the car there should have been a sticker on the window stating what the warranty was on the car. What did it state?

I actually saw a court case like this one. The guy got his money bck because it was considered a fradulent sale. Don't give up. Read your paerwork carefully. There must be something about a warranty or whatnot and if not on the contract then there must be something in your speciic state laws.

Photograph and document everything immediately. Photographs. Witnesses. Receipts. Signatures. Everything. You'll need that time stamped photo of the electrical tape covered dash board when you go to court. Or if you want to post the pictures online.

Then go after the car dealer-
Then call the salesman back, explain that you'd like to return the car based upon the previously undiscovered 'problems.' Be polite. Until they say "tough :q:q:q:q."

They'll be far more inclined to just let you return the car in exchange for another one less refund your money. That would be the path of least resistance.

Then contact the BBB.
And tell them that you're going to take them to court because of the fraud.

I'm going to guess you bought this car on a small, 'independent' kind of used car lot, I doubt there was any warranty on that car. But this looks more like fraud than caveot emptor.

Bur really, you didn't even give the car a comprehensive test drive? You certainly didn't have a mechanic give it a once over. I don't think you need a pile on here to understand how bad an idea that was. Hopefully this dealer will care about his reputation.

Did you call the dealer and let them know what you found.give him the option to either repair the issue aka replace all coils and spark plugs and check the covers for leaking oil and replace that if needed or take back the car. Most likely he will repair it. Be very polite about it. Second thing how much did you pay for the car. The repair is very cheap now if you do it yourself heck if your around the phili area I will do it for you for a six pack and some burgers lol.

I would want the catalytic converters replaced too. They've been damaged. The only question is how long before they fail.

If he gives him choice have him pay for the cats and you pay for the coils. Cats can cost 750.each and you have 2.

yeah i messed up, no way that should've gotten past me. I normally do all my own work on my other cars, but I decided to get an LS since I always wanted one. I also purchased an aftermarket warranty on the car for added protection. I called him and reported my findings and since I no longer trust him or his mechanics, I had a trusted mechanic write up a work order on how much it would cost to replace the valve cover gasket, and the affected coil and plug. (I already changed all the plugs and tested the coils.) They seem to be fine. I plan on faxing that to him tomorrow, but now im thinking about the cats..I would hate to get the small things fixed then my cats go on me from all the possible raw fuel being dumped in them...Thanks for all the help guys. Im just replying because Im new and not exactly sure how to navigate the site. However I am knowledgeable or the search feature.

My '06 was sputtering and there was NO CEL. I replaced all of the COPs and plugs. It now runs like new. While sitting at a stop light I have to look at the tach to see if it is running, it runs that smooth now. So your seller may need to do the same.
