Hey everyone. I need some help identifing a piece under the dash of my 2001 Lincoln LS. I have absolutely no idea what it is or what it could be. I am attaching some pictures so you can see where it is located. It is a little black rectangular box with a little green blinking light on the front of it. There is a toggle switch on the back of it that I just discovered when I took these pictures. When you flip it, it makes the green light stay on instead of flickering. When it flickers there doesn't seem to be any kind of pattern to it it will just flicker at random speeds and stay on or off for different amounts of time. I haven't been able to find anything in the manual about it, but maybe I overlooked it some where. I really think that it is an aftermarkert part of some sort though. I appreciate any help or advice given to me so I can identify what this is. Thanks guys!

I would say that you have something aftermarket like and alarm or remote start.

yes looks like some sort of valet switch for something that's aftermarket.

How can I go about finding out if it is an aftermarket alarm? I mean the dealership I bought it from said nothing about it and there is not a single bit of literature in the car for it. I don't have any kind of remote to it all I have is the original keyless entry remote that everyone else has.

I am guessing there is a wire that comes out of the back. can you tell where the wire goes? Do you see a horn under the hood that could be from the old alarm?

I installed a remote starter in my brothers truck about a month ago and it came with a switch that looked similar to that one. The company also made one for the LS that used the factory key remote. It said that when holding the lock or unlock button (I can't remeber which one) down for a cetain amount of time the car would start. If you cannot find anything running to an alarm, Try holding one of the keys down for about 10 secs with the switch flicked either way. Maybe you lucked out and got a car with an installed remote start!!

Tommy Lee Jones in MIB..."You see that little red button? Don't EVER push the little red button!"

Just a forewarning...If you flick the switch and a rocket booster comes out of the azz of your car and you crash don't ever say I didn't warn ya... ;)

here is the website for the remote starter I used.
I think he is safe from rockets coming out the back. His button is green not red.

But green means go... :D And of course we all know that yellow means go faster! ;)

I dont know, I have a sticker under my hood on the air cleaner that says "DEI Remote Start Installed, Stay Clear of belts and fans at all times"

I've played wtiht he remote holding down buttons and combinations. Can't find anything in the manual about it, I peeled the sticker off when I detailed the engine bay because it was ugly, but I dont have a second remote or anything and the old owner never mentioned anything about it.

Okay, now I have another question. Yesterday I was playing with my remote and I found that if I hold the unlock button for a couple of seconds the windows will roll down. They will continue to roll down for as long as I am holding the unlock button. My question is, does this feature come with every LS or do you guys think it has something to do with that little piece under the dash?

When I do that, all my friends are amazed lol. They will be walking up and I'll hold that button and they like freak and and say "DID YOU DO THAT???"

One of those fetures I like about the LS

i love that feature...i just wish the lock button would make them go up instead of the lock on the door

Hmmmm, I just don't know what it is. I don't see any kind of horn or speaker under the hood indicating an aftermarket alarm. I have played with the factory remote pushing different button combinations and nothing. I just don't know what it could be. My curiosity is killing me though.

Look behind the panel were the toggle in located and see if you see any kind of control box. Maybe the installer put it there if it is and alarm or remote starter. If so then see if there is any info on it that you could search for (manufacture, model, serial) Maybe then you could go to their website or call them and ask how it works or find out what it is for.
