I got a 94 TC with 135K. The engine has a rough idle, it shakes a little bit, enough to feel it inside the car. Sometimes when it's idling, the rpms will drop to the point where it almost stalls, then the rpms will pick up again. I already replaced the IAC, cleaned the egr, changed the plugs, cleaned the MAF, cleaned the EVR filter, and replaced the fuel filter. I scanned for codes and got code 136 (exhaust bank 2 is lean). Already replaced 02 sensor in bank 2. Anybody know what else could possibly cause this, I'm running out of ideas and out of money. :slam

Could be a bad catalytic converter, also did you change the pcv? Have you tried running some seafoam through it as if done thru the pcv tube it says it can help to clean a catalyic converter, among other items. My 94 crownvic had a similar condition but there was no code thrown. It was cleared up by using air intake cleaner through the throttle body and wiping the area off and spraying the bottle for a bit run it for like a min or 2 then repeeat. I found unless most of the can is used it isn't as effective though some brands don't say to use it all or not. When doing these treatments make sure and have the car already run and up to normal tempature not cold or it tends not to clean very well.

check the pcv hose where it runs to the back of the head and across.there is a tee that goes bad and starts sucking unmetered air

was there ever any resolution on this? i'm having a very similar problem

i replaced the egr, cap & rotor, plugs, wires, coil, fuel filter. mufflers were rotten so i replaced those as well. when i swapped all the ignition parts i also ran a can of sea foam through the tank. i thought the problem was initially the EGR since it was throwing a position sensor code. i haven't scanned it yet but the problem had gone away. i'm on a fresh tank of gas after the sea foam and the problem's back and the idle's a little rough. it wasn't acting up again till i beat the mufflers off so it kinda points me at the CAT being partially clogged.

if the car's at idle in neutral it runs fine, but while in drive with the brake pedal depressed the RPM's will dip down real low, then come back up and continue to do so repeatedly or may eventually 'cause the car to stall

i haven't replaced the PCV yet 'cause it's a nightmare to get to, but i guess it needs to be done and go from there

time to break out the ol' scantool and see what comes up

i've had the EXACT problem too but i think mine is also tranny related because when i'm slowing down the car wants to stay in the same gear so the rpms drop unless i left foot brake and keep the revs up a tiny bit with the gas. Taking my car into the shop over thanksgiving cause i'm going out of town. hopefully my mech can fix it. i'll tell him about the cats and the tranny problem. this problems makes me hate my car :Bang  :(

I had the same problem with my 91 Town Car, there is a vacumm line behind the throttle body , check that. The one on my Town Car was rotted out and had a hole in it, a mechanic friend of mine replaced that and my car runs good idle problem fixed!!!!!
