This was my fun weekend...
I had a low speed "clunk clunk clunk" when on the brakes, sounded like it was coming from the front driver's side. Ok, no biggie..I got some ceramic pads from my local parts place and swapped them out yesterday. Get them done, take it for a ride and the noise is gone. No wait, it's not. So I hop in my truck and head to AutoZone and pick up 2 front rotors, 2 rear rotors and a set of rear pads since I need to have this car running for my long weekend down in Virginia Beach in a few weeks.
Fast forward to this morning...
I pop off the rear driver's side wheel since I heard a nasty grinding noise along with the clunk and what do I see? The outward pad was completely gone from the backing plate and wore a groove into the outer part of my rotors. Get that side done and start on the rear passenger side rotor and pads. Looks like the other side was getting ready to explode as well.
I'm curious if these are supposed to be high performance pads, how does a pad disintergrate from normal commuting? This car doesn't do burn outs, I don't drive it hard (I can't with the shape of the roads around here). These things were a year and one month old. I put these on last June.
I've left the front EBC rotors on for now, mainly because there's no noise or problems yet. You can bet your keesters that I will never again use this brand for brakes - on anything.
I suggest checking yours if you use them. If you have no signs of cracking or breaking, etc., consider yourself lucky. This could have been a very bad accident waiting to happen.
