I promise to nicer if you promise to be smarter.
I keep hearing about how horrible this economy is, about how no one can buy anything, about how stuff is so overpriced, :blah: :blah: :blah:....

Yet, it seems car dealers haven't gotten this memo yet.

I've been dealing with SEVERAL car dealers from all over the country in the quest for an 08 used truck, and I'll be damned if these dealerships aren't hanging on to their exorbitant prices!

I tell them, "I'm paying cash, what's your best deal? No Taxes as it will be registered in another state".

The most I've gotten off (ok... that came out wrong...) was $1500 dollars. The LEAST? $160 on a $39K (sale price) Pick-up truck! I told that guy he was on crack. I don't think he much appreciated my implying he was a crackhead. His snotty rebuttal? "Yeah, but does the truck you found cheaper have Navigation?" "Yup. It even has Rear DVD, Traction Control and upfitter switches... I do believe the last three items are lacking from the truck YOU are selling. Have a great day, and quit hitting that pipe. You might actually SELL something". I heard him start to say something as I was hanging up the phone. Oh well.

So, it looks like I'll be picking up that black one I posted about last night. I'm sending the guy a deposit today, and hopefully flying out in the next couple of days to go get the damned thing. It will need some fresh rubber, as it's down to about 30%... so if any LvC'ers between GA and Phoenix work at a tire shop, you should hook me up with a good deal, and I'll buy you lunch. :D

WTF?

nope...

{RANT OFF}

There we go.

Hey don't worry Frogman I and the rest of the working class will be buying you your truck soon. Well that's if you make more than $5,000,000...

We are bailing out the rich like crazy... with money from the people who have just enough to get by..

So you need a truck.

Well just put a little hurt on the saleman he'll see it your way.

No need to buy MY truck, I can handle that all by myself. ;)

And haven't you heard? Hurting people is a felony!... if you get caught.

And for the record? I too are part of the working class. I DO work for a living, you know. It's not always fun and games... ok, most of the time it is, but still.

Since the price of gas crashed down to under 2.00 with prices staying low through at least 2009 they're not as anxious to unload SUV's and trucks that were going for cost when gas was 4.00+
Now they figure some of the demand will return so they're
holding up their prices.
Should have bought when gas was 4.00 if you wanted the best deal.
But then hindsight is always 20/20

I experienced a little of that as well when I bought a 05 Toyota Avalon. They wouldnt budge on price due to paying cash! They said they were actually losing money since I would be paying any interest. And this was before the housing/banking crash. Good luck with your purchase.

Ive been trying and trying to get a loan for a used truck and nobody will come off one! Like a bunch of crack head thinking Im trying to steal their stash. Obviously they dont need to sell them that bad or else I would be in my new truck by now. :(

i say drive teh truck to every dealership between your pick up spot and home that wouldnt give you a deal or the time of day and show em just how serious you were.... then burn the place to ground!

I don't think alot of people get it yet. By the time they get it will be when they get their first unemployment check. Thank god you didn't buy a GM. Your warranty would run out in march, atleast with a ford your warranty should be good til the summer. Even the mexicans I know said F this and are moving back to mexico. Frog has been back for awhile, he's just sneaky as hell. Gratz on the new truck.

My offer was turned down this afternoon by the dealer on a used '08 Expedition EL.

A month ago they would have blown me to sell it to me for a couple grand less than I offered today. Now they want to hold off on giving it away because gas has dropped.

I want and need the freaking space. I'm not hauling 6-7 kids around with a damn prius, no matter what the price of gas is.

And ya, you'd need to see the movie ELF with Will Ferrell to see how well Frogman blends in to the crowd.:shifty:

I saved $6000.00 when I recently bought my Mazda hatchback.
It helps if you are there in person, as to dealing over the phone.
I saw the car on the lot, went in, told the salesman I would pay cash, and would not spend over $15,000.00
They said no, I left, they called the next day and agreed to my cash offer.
I bought the Mazda when gas was way over $4.00 a gallon, so cars that get good mileage were in high demand, still, they agreed to my offer.
I let the dealer know they weren't the only game in town, and I would be looking till I found one at my price.
They knew I would find another one which is why they decided to sell it too me.
Love this little puddle jumper, and it is extremely quick for a four cylinder.
Like every vehicle I have ever owned, it is the top of the line model with all the bells and whistles.
Because Mazda "3" hatchbacks have not changed their look since 2004, I decided to buy a low mileage 2006 instead of an 08.
I did not want to take that first year depreciation .
I learned that evil lesson when I bought my Dakota brand new in 2003.
Some say you can't save by paying cash, and that is true (sometimes) but in my case I made out very well.
Bob.
