Picked my car up from Pepboys a few hours ago and it's driving pretty good exept for one thing. Whenever I hit the accelerater I hear this kinda high pitch turbine type noise. Whenever I let off the gas it's gone. Do you think when they installed the alternator that the belt may be on too tight?

If it's running the same.....It has an automatic tensioner, maybe it's just the sound of the new alternator, make sure you have a good warrenty or take it back up and tell them I don't think you shuold here anything new.

mysteriously...i get up to go to work this morning and the sound is now gone..may have been like you said from new alternator.....

Did they put on a new belt? Either way, maybe the belt wasn't seated properly.

My guess is your battery wasn't up to snuff and you were hearing the alternator heavily charging. Once the battery was charged, it quieted down.

I had the same thing....I think it was the belt and idlers....It went away by the time I got home 13-14 miles or so....

As long as it doesnt do it again....you should be good

Where in Charlotte are you? I'm 12 miles outside the city near Monroe.

Hi,

I recently purchased a 2001 Lincoln LS with 90,000 miles, four days after I purchased the car the engine light came on my mechanic said it was some kind of sensor. He fixed the problem and now the the engine light is off.
One week ago my car start making the light grinding noise when I stepped on the gas. My mechanic mentioned a defect in the torque converter. Is this an expensive repair? It's covered under my warranty,:Bang :Bang but I'm hoping that's truly the problem. I'm ready to trade this car in already but I don't want a car note. What do you think???

Ah Harris huh, such a wonderful road lol. Well actually I guess its not too much worse than any other road near downtown and all that. Last time I was down Harris I got pulled for doing 55 in the 45 area, cop said he knew I was not familiar w/ the speed limits and let me go.

Converters CAN be very expensive because if they've started coming apart, they contaminate the entire transmission and it has to be gone through too.

What kind of warranty do you have with an 01? I would guess it would be covered since it's a drivetrain repair.
