A friend at work has challenged me to a sprint. His new G35 against my slightly modded LS8. I hear those G35's are putting close to 300hp down. His isn't the all wheel drive model, but it is a manual. Any hypothesis you can provide would be greatly appreciated....

If you're driving an '03+ LS8, it will most likely come down to the driver.

I've heard folks say they can get their LS8 to 60 in the low 6-sec range, and the G35 stick can hit it in the high 5s with a good driver and good tires.

Get a good LS with a good driver and good tires and put it up against a poor driver in a G35 6-speed, and the LS could come out ahead.

If yer driving less than an '03, then forget it.

I'm sure other folks will flame ya for racing, so be prepared. Personally, I've got nothing against sprints up to the speed limit on the road. Save the rest for the track. :)

1/4 mile time around mid to low 14's for the stock G35 (depending on the driver)

in my 2003 v8 ls sport my times were between 14.9 and 15.2 when she was stock. and note: I only broke into the 14's once.

Also the g35 has a bit more torque, can't remember the numbers but a simple google search would find that info for ya. I would be a bit nervous as well, but then again your friend might not know how to drive :D

And, in that case, depending on conditions. I went to Z-day at the racetrack this past summer. There were ALOT of G35s there, and ALOT of them were running mid-15s thanks to the high temps that day.

Well I think he will get a lot of wheel spin. I just bought some new Ecsta MX's and if I heat em up I can launch pretty damn well. We pry won't get out and run em till it warms up here in Omaha. I'll definitely let ya all know how it goes down.

Maybe quick can have the blower ready for production by then.

The G has more power and torque than the LS and it weighs less. Both have traction control so the G will hook up and screw. Been there done that against my buddy's G35 sedan and it's no contest. The car is rediculously fast out of the box in the straight line... but get him in the twisties and you'll own him... :runaway:

HEY!!! Tell your friend I will take him anyday with my my second vehicle!!! think he will bite?

What a donkey. Isn't the thread about the LS vs the G35? Sorry the facts hurt... since you want to put your slow bike up on the line, why don't you race his "second vehicle"

That has no more relevance in this thread than does your bike.

If you want bikes...let me get my kid's Gixxer 1000 then we can talk. As to the cars, I'm afraid the Datsu...ooops Infiniti has you on this one unless you can figure a gimmick that will give you an advantage...such as JUICE!!!!!

Don't be afraid... Just don't bet on it.

With my LS8, after some "basic" mods, I've gained respect from my friends at some speed ranges, but not quite at take off. I have an 02, but I went internal and did very minor changes, but with all the improvements, my car is a lot faster. However, my friends, who all have 350's, G35's, Mustangs (no match for my LS anymore), and some beemers, have a lot of fun trying to catch up to me after a few seconds on the road, but I painfully say, most of the time, depending on conditions, I'm left to read their license plate for a few seconds. That's just the way the car is. I was going to do NOS, but now I have a baby on the way, due in may, so, I'll pass on it and start acting my age a little more (only for a while). And for some reason, sometimes my car does NOT cut off at 140, it keeps going. That's after we put the engine back together. Unfortunatelly, I don't have control of it and I don't know when it will cut or not. It made me look good once with my friends GTO, he got scared at around 150 and I just kept up, making me the champ. But I know better than that. :)

I have an 04 Mustang for you....and with it bone stock, you're right...it's no match for your LS...you're not anywhere near it's performance. It's a 12 second car off the show room floor.

Oh yea...it has a little snake on the fender. Be careful what you say...there is ALWAYS someone out there who will hand you your ass. I got mine handed to me once by a little ol' 01 GT. Little did I know he was pushing close to 600 hp out of the thing until he absolutely raped me as he went around me.

Like I said...

It's all under the hood and I know what I've been in. Of course there's someone out there that will surprise me, just like I have done to many others. Bet I would surprise you too.

You just might. But I've never, ever seen an LS in the 12's...yet. (you got that thing running yet Quik?) But that's not saying they aren't out there. But even 12's won't do it....

Tampa is a hot bed of Cobras. I'm sure you can find an 03 or 04 you can try. Most of them post on the SVTPerformance board. Go try one and see how you fare...and let us know. Just remember, you can get 500 lbs ft of torque out of these things so easy it's scary.

actually, the traction control on my 350Z absolutely destroyed the straightline acceleration. I could get it going MUCH faster with the TCS turned off. The traction control in the LS is alot more helpful than it is in the Z/g35.

I still don't know what year LS you are running.
And, is his G35 the sedan or coupe?

That's what I'm talking about

I got my car tuned up from inside out by a local group of SVT "Freaks". It all started as "try it out, see what happens". And Yes, I'm running NOS, but I know that straight out with out it, I wouldn't mess with a Cobra. I'm not Stupid, and I can't say yet what my numbers are cause we haven't tested it yet, plus we are expecting a baby in may, and honestly, I'm not into the car so much for now, but when I'm pushed, I respond. I've only used my shot twice, one to try it and the other against one of my buddies in his 06 Shelby. I'll say it, only going down a nice stretch on 75 here, I was able to come "close" to him. That thing's just a monster. I respect power cars, I don't consider my ls8 a dragster, but after what I've done with it, it deserves some respect it self. Peace.
