18.75" hail stone

http://blogs.woodtv.com/2010/07/27/world-record-hailstone/

<–monster hail from Vivian S.D. – courtesy Aberdeen NWS. WOW check out that hailstone. Looks like that hailstone measures 8 inches across! The hail pounded Vivian, S.D. on July 23rd. The hail damaged “pretty much every house in town” according to one resident. Vivian is just north of I-90 around 30 miles south of Pierre. At least five people were injured on I-90 as hail crashed through the windows and roofs of vehicles. Most everyone in town had softball-sized hail. The all-time record hailstone fell at Aurora, Nebraska on June 22, 2003 and that was 7 inches in diameter, 18.75″ in circumference and weighed 1.65 pounds. This hailstone appears to be 18.5″ in circumference and on one scale weighed 1.8 pounds. The Coffee Cup Fuel Stop had 19 holes in the ceiling. Some of the big hailstones had been sitting outside for 90 minutes before they were picked up. The storm was also accompanied by at least one tornado and wind gusts estimated to be 85 mph.
