Anti-Hobbyist Inoperable Vehicle Bill Dies As Illinois Legislature Adjourns
At least for the time being, SEMA has stalled Illinois legislation that threatened to further restrict the ability of Illinois hobbyists from maintaining inoperable vehicles on private property. The bill removes historic vehicles over 25-years of age from a list of vehicles exempt from county inoperable vehicle ordinances if they are not kept within a building. Under current law, a county board may declare all inoperable vehicles a nuisance and order their disposal. This bill, if it had been passed and signed into law, would have subjected ungaraged historic hobby cars to disposal and possible fines. The measure will be carried over to the 2006 legislative session

these inoperable vehicle laws really need to go in the round filing cabinet.

Who cares what someone does on their own property...

This is where we part company on our views. I firmly believe that part of the decline of cities comes from abandoned cars in driveways and backyards. This is the target of the bill, not restoration works in progress.

You claim the bill to be anti-hobbyist yet the vast majority of cars parked in backyards are just plain junk. Anyone that is a true hobbyist either covers their cars or puts them inside.

Then the laws need only be applicable in cities...not on my 1.5 acre single family home in the middle of nowhere.

These laws target all non working vehicles...even those under car covers.

I only have one opinion on this issue. The last thing we need in this country is more laws.

If its on my own property and I am not grossly breaking any laws then I should be able to leave all the not-so-good-looking junk all over my yard! That is why it is OUR property! The very furthest this should be taken is to make it mandatory for someone to put up a fence for an unsightly yard that brings down area property value, if that! America is drowning in our own democracy.
