So this morning i got up early, drove to pep boys for an inspection. I was expecting "you need this..that etc etc etc". The mechanic drove the car into the bay after 30 minutes of waiting, and didn't do a single thing, i seen him. Usually they hook up the exhaust to some system etc. 10 minutes later, he says to go inside, it's all done??!?!?!!???!!!

$40 later, i got my newly inspected car back. Is there a new, easy process for inspecting cars or something??

I even said to myself "he didn't do squat"...haha.

I aint complaining, got my new april 2010 sticker and everything!!!

Not bad at all.

My guy will usually ask if my car needs anything. He'll take it out for a spin and as long as it drives ok & the lights work, it gets stickers.

KK, you don't have to deal with that, but it makes it worthwhile when you get hit by some a**hole that slides into you on account of bald tires. It sucks to have to force people to take care of their cars, but there are some benefits to it.

Hey it could be MUCh worse...when I lived in cali I had to keep 2 of my cads registered in Montana, although they ran clean enough to pass, I could not even pay anyone to sign off on the visual....and i thought it looked damn good ;)

THAT is what is wrong with the whole system.

It doesnt matter if your car is cleaner than most cars on the road.
The lack of a particular PART or the presence of a particular part may cause you to fail.

I say, if the car is clean, put a damned sticker on it..it's really not that complicated.

They have expensive equipment that "TELLS" them the car is clean.
YET that equipment still doesnt have the ability to "pass" the car.

it's CRAAAAAAAP!

The factory intake tube was not stock and contained an "auxilary injection system" (methanol), and that the factory rear mufflers were both replaced with turbos.

Mind you, when I pulled in I used the excuse that I could not open the hood, so they did the sniffer test first....car passed with flying colors...it wasn't until they put it on a lift and popeed the hood that I had a problem.

Mind you the turbos are much more restrictive than then a high flow cat, and there are two of them in the system...with as clean as it was one would think that that would be all that mattered. so long story short, the car is now perminatly registered in MT

Sounds like the Cali rules and regs suck the big one! Here in my county of NC, the only inspection I'll have to pass is an annual safety. Only cars 96 and newer get emissions here, which is good for me.

And it's always been that way too.. California is the absolute WORST state for a car enthusiast to live in.

Lonnie moved from California to Florida because of a very very similar situation with his EEC 4 converted to OBD2.

The smog nazi's ran him thru the ringer and told him he had to have SIX convertors on the car, to which he complied..and they STILL FAILED HIM.

Screw the NAZI state of California, the sooner it cracks off and falls into the sea the better!!!!

yeah...its complete bs, in as much as i'm a power junkie, I also do my best to make sure that I am not a gross polluter, and even with the mods all of my cars would pass a cali sniffer test and come out at least as clean as from the factory....they just put out signifigantly more power, and dont "look" factory.

As dumb as it sounds, a big part of it is money....something like hey, your cars not stock so we're gonna send you to six different people to tell you it cant be fixed (and get our $6 from each of them), then we will tell you your screwed.

This is what made me become a die hard fan of MT....cars are more than 13 years old; one time $85 fee, and no inspections or renewals.

Yeah, I remember reading his thread about it. They made a big deal about his Cobra intake and stuff. Very silly. I mean, if a car passes the 'sniffer' test, what's the F.ing problem? And yet, at the same time, you have bone stock Hummers (an old governator favorite) passing just fine. Cali rules are absurd beyond belief! I just hope their rules / regs don't filter through to the rest of the states!

I could understand that if he had a sullivan or other aftermarket intake on there, but he used "ford parts" that already passed CARB certification.

it makes no sense, but "that's california"...not much makes sense.

But So Cal living is ohhh so nice....

says the guy that only "visited" there.

go live there for 5 years..then get back to me.

I've got alot of relatives that "I dont claim".. that live there.
That is reason enough for me to know I dont want to live there.

They are the st00pidest people on the planet, with some really goofy outlooks on life...

each are millionaires that RAN to Texas when my grandmother died to get "their share" of 18K that they sold grandmas house for.
Millionaires squabbling over 18K...

They define douchebag.

agreed...i do miss living there, But like blue and xlr said, there is a total air of stupidity....even if the parts are non-carb certified, if the PURPOSE of the rules are to keep cars clean, you would think that if a car was running cleaner then designed everyone would be happy; instead they have turned it into a game that just causes people to spend their hard earned money.

I knew I was into the caddy for about 3x what its worth, what was the clincher was realizing i was going to have to spend its value again if i tried to register it in cali....quick answer f^'em...

You guys are talking to someone who has lived in MN his whole life... when you realize that -20 degrees and snowy don't exist everywhere well...

I read KK's statement as sarcasm... I don't think he's dumb enough to actually think it's nice living there.

Well, on second thought, we should qualify that. It was nice to live there... until the politicians and people ruined it.

I don't think that ANYONE will deny that the weather, the scenery, and the car scene are anything but spectacular.... now as an overall package it does have it's drawbacks....

I know 3 guys, you give them the paper work and a $20, and I can get a parts car inspected. Same guy has done my cars for years. He knows I take care of them and he'll write me up, no questions.

i still have a home there and I dont mind it....then again my closest neighbor is about 5 miles away, and you gotta drive about 35 miles for groceries....wait maybe thats why i liked it...no people, no rules, and the middle of BFE where I can hunt in my back yard

no he was serious.. but he's young and full of piss and vinegar too.

you know when the boy first see's disneyland and wants to live there.

Same thing.

Then when minnie mouse takes her head off and he see's it's some gay guy with a moustache, then and only then does he realize the truth to the matter.
*chuckles*

government is another word for corporation. all of the regs and rules from ticketing to smog inspection is all about MONEY.

cali smog laws suck balls.

Good cali weather means more driving equals pollution.

Try living in Los Angeles and see if your respiratory system doesn't get effected.

Worse air in the nation.
