Installing coil packs back on vehicle after valve cover replacement

Ok, I may just be completely stupid or something, but it seems like when I re-install a spark plug boot (in this case attached to the coil pack), the metal part of the boot assembly SHOULD latch onto the spark plug itself.

In this case (2000 LS V8), it's a spring inside the boot, and doesn't seem to want to latch onto anything at all, if there's any pressure it looks like it just wants to compress the spring and NOT latch onto the spark plug. Any ideas?

i haven't swapped any yet myself but it doens't sound unplausible that the spring is what's making contact w/the plug

i replaced mine, and it seems almost as though they are not attaching them selves corectly but once you put the screw in it secures them down tight, you should be fine...
