I want to know what you guys with power adders have done about insurance.
How much did adding a supercharger/turbo increase your premiums, and what is your agent's policy regarding coverage of modifications?

Ive looked all over the internet, and there seems to be a lot of conflicting answers.
As an offhand thought, I was wondering if a supercharged v6 mustang would be cheaper to insure than a GT.

Modifications have nothing to do with insurance premiums. Why would your agent even know? The rates are based off of what vehicle you drive, your driving history, and your personal info, such as age, sex, credit, location, etc.

but ive also seen some people get bit in the ass from not reporting it. lets say you have a v6 mustang, and you put a v8 in it. then you wreck the car and puncture the oil pan and blow the eng in the process. if the insurance company wants to be an ass all they have to give you is the v6

Exactly. I don't know of any insurance company that is going to cover modifications under a normal policy. You would have to get a fixed value policy, which would involve an appraisal and such, and not a whole lot of companies offer such policies.

You could have your car appraised with pictures of your modifications but obviously the insurance companies would want more money.
I've never informed my ins co about mods to my car but have lots of pictures to prove what I have in the car.
