I've got a few questions regarding CAI. I"ll be installing an regular intake system you can buy for the LS soon.

I will be taking my metal working skills and create an enclosed airbox specifically designed for an LS V8.

What is the best way to have the filter, completely enclosed? Half Enclosed?

I will be piping cold air in through a small system i made a while back that will filter any damp/water before it reaches half way through the air intake to the filter.

I've seen the ice box system, and a few others that guys here have done, but im most curious about the best "proper" way to make this box. I should be able to make it within a few hours. Hopefully in the next coming month i'll have a day to sit down and really think it out and do it.

Thanks for any info regarding sizes, types of enclosures, types of characteristics of insulting it to ensure no hot air is seeping in, or warms it up and creates warmth from inside the box.

Thanks

- you have to allow incoming air
- any air that comes in from the engine bay will be 'hot' - not good
- air coming in from the outside is good - don't let water in
- find a way to 'ram' the air in as you move forward

So I take it an fully enclosed structure, check. Is aluminum the best insulator to keep the box cool after the car running for a while?

I've got a GREAT induction kit i've already built previously that i'll re-mold for the LS, however I'm mostly curious about the construction, size restrictions, enclosure of the filter itself. I've seen many just contain two walls against the engine, and some entirely enclosed. I agree the stock system is closer to CAI than the after market parts, perhaps I could mfg one and send it to someone who could mass produce it! Would only be the for the LSV8 though.

Thanks again!
