Installed some V-Powers in my 02 LS8 yesterday and considering how painfull it was to do the drivers side (dam I was missing my old 2V 4.6) I don't want to have to go through that anytime soon. So my question is should I spend the money on a set if Iridum plugs I can get the NGK IX's for about $45 but I dont know if its worth it no one I know has ever run them before I've heard there supposed have all the pros of platinum but none of the cons is that true, is anyone runing them in there 3.9 if so do you think they are worth the money?

Well the old school of thought cheap plugs are just as good but you might have to change them more frequently. That said I bought and installed the denso plugs and have had them in for several months now. I took the three out on the right hand side and they still look great and I have absolutely no regrest for spending the extra money today.

Plugs do not add power but they can restore lost power if they are of good quality.

Welcome aboard LVC. Please take the opportunity to check out the SE chapter and consider joinging the group.

I have family down there in sunrise and up around boyton beach but i live over in Tampa. Lots of Floridian LSers here.

Links to the chapte are listd below in my signature.

Thanks eL eS the only question now is denso's or NGK's but thats a while off considering it took me 11 hours yesterday to change the plugs its not something im going to do for quite some time. Worth it though between the plugs KKN and the Borla now I can keep up with my friends tuned Murader :) And ya I see LS's all over the place down here just joined the chapter I dont have a lot of free time but I would love to go to a meet sometime.

hmmm... i went with denso's iridium....very satisfied, i also think that maybe spark plugs are behind all the mysterious missfires on LS's???? iridium is known to take less energy from the coil due to the material being so small to conduct ...but also makes bigger sparks, keeps cleaner....from all the testing so far it not good on forced induction cars due to spark being blown out by the compression :( meanwhile n.a motor should benefit from it whole lot more :)

Yeah dooing a tune up on the LS is a total nightmare. You should try doing one on a V6.

Thanks for joining the SE. I know what it is like when free time is at a premium. Feast or famine sometimes. I have been known to disappear from a month at a time becasue I am so damn busy.

You will always find a person willing to help you here a almost any hour of the day and folks always welcome you back after disappearing for a while.

You'll do better next time. You can get it all done in a couple of hours once you know how to get in there. It's not too bad. Everything on this car is hard the first time. I am working on my first window regulator now. I have the window held open with a screwdriver holding the regulator in place. It's raining out...hope it holds!

Oh...I used the stock double platinums. The cheapo copper replacements that someone threw in there before me looked rough. Those COPs fire pretty hot and seemed to waste the standard plugs quickly. The first time I did the job, I didn't want to get back in there anytime soon also. Then I bought a second LS and had to do that one anyway. :)

Yeah owning two LS' has certainly given you an edge on what to do. You have had to clear the path and pave the road on a few issues yourself and you are right about the increase in efficency after doing the job once. Second time around is a snap.

It doesn't make it any more desireable but I did notice my times improved on task that were heavy in wrench turning.

I am stunned everytime Lou produces a one off project this stuff takes time. It really makes you appreciate the scope of the project you seen done on the auto shows or right here in LvC.

Yea...good luck! Don't think I will be going for a newer LS. I did consider looking for an '02. I just really like the 1st gen. You never know in the future though.

Yeah I really love my car and wouldn't mind taking it offline to do some maintenance on and just keep it since it is a 1st gen and it might be collectible one day who knows.

I am browsing over the broadened list of 350z on the nissan site right now. I know what they cost and I have leased on in the past plus we bought my wifes 3.5SE Altima from the same dealer. There are some great twealks for the car. I am pretty certian I will keep the 00 LS if I do.

I have a very weird taste in cars I think

Ya Im shure it will be a lot better next time esp. since I dident put the bottom back screw on the driver side COP cover back in :) thats the one that actualy took all the time since I dident have a 7mm angled wrench finally got it off using a socket I cut down to about 1/3ed its normal size and flatten the sides then use a vice grip to turn it NOT FUN. still amazed how easy it was to change the oil though :)

eL I'd go for the black 39K one if I where you I'm shure you talk them down another grand and at that price I think its worth it esp. if its true that there killing the line. The 350's ok a friend of a friend has got a AWD G35 with some work havent had a chance to set up a race yet since I've only had the LS just over a week but he's allready lost to my friends tuned Murader and Mark VIII and considering that I can more or less keep up with the maurder and Ill I got is the borla and the KKN. Plus I just dont think its as nice inside and thats the Infinty verson. that and they allways just seemd like high end :ricesmile

:L

yeah this is the first car I have changed that was not difficult to do. I was suprusied as to how easy it is to chng oil and filtetr compared to toher cars I have had,

So Iridium Plugs are the way to go?

Not necessarily. You would be fine with the stock replacements also as they are double platinum. I personally wouldn't bother with standard copper plugs, but they will work. They just won't last as long.

i have denso iridium plugs installed, and quite frankly i noticed nothing. autolites have iridium spark plugs now. but the price will probably be different between the two. i paid a total of $90 on my denso's, i expect half that price for the autolites!

Well I was thinking about changing the plugs tomorrow but dont know what I should go with...I was gonna just go to checker/autozone and get some but I guess the best they have are bosch platinums...what would you guys say to go with, and will I have to change the valve cover gaskets when I do plugs or no...I am just kinda confused on what to do on this car...??

Well What should I get??

Well everyone here seems to be saying get the iridium plugs but they go for anywhere between $45-$90 a set. I put in a set of NGK V-Powers $1.79 a plug and I love them smoother quicker throttle response and a noticable power incress from the platinum that where in there but thell have to be changed inabout another 10,000 miles witch sucks since its not an easy task. If you dont care about getting a little extra ump out of your car and dont want to speen the money on iridium then just put some platinum back in just stay far far away from the bosh plus 4's bigist load of crap markiting gimic I've ever seen you cant even gap them. As far as what brand though I would still recomend NGK been using them for years and I've allways had good results.
:L

Why would you want to worry about what plug to use when the stock plug will last upwards of 100,000 miles on a good engine? You will never, ever convince me there is horsepower in a spark plug over the factory unit. I've looked at dyno sheets and driven cars who have changed plugs and it just isn't there. In fact, if you're not careful, you can get the wrong heat range and hurt the performance of the plug! I just replaced a set of plugs in a LS8 with almost 60,000 miles on it. If he didn't already have the new plugs, I would have put the old ones back in. They looked that good...and they were the originals with the two different part numbers (per side) I don't think you can ever go wrong using what the engineers designed for the car.

Well I got one side changed today and yep they were still the factory ones!! They didnt look bad at all and my car has 70k on it...Oh well I replaced em with the Denso Iridiums and I changed the fuel filter too...I got more stuff to do today so I probably wont change the driver side until tomorrow...Thanks for the help though guys!!
