i am pretty sure its not due to being plastic....but can a mclaren grille be chromed out?
will it shine as much as chrome and is it prone to chipping, also how expensive?didjital| said:I believe the process to chrome plastic is called vacuum metalizing. This is different than electroplating or chrome plating.
So i'd say yes, it is possible if you found a shop to do it, perhaps someone has more info.
Thanks!!LennDawg said:check this out Mike... http://www.advancedplating.com/
Those guys can chrome plate plastic. They are just up the interstate in Nashville, TN. I have talked with them on several occasions about chrome plating the Mclaren grilles. The first quote I got was in the neighborhood of $300 PER grille. I saw them again at a local rod run and asked again and the price was $200 PER grille. I'd say the cost will keep coming down and this may be a good deal if it can be around the $50-$100 range which is about the cost of painting.LennDawg said:check this out Mike... http://www.advancedplating.com/

GrayGhost1 said:Yeah, I've bugged these guys quite a bit. I believe they are just trying to capitalize on a very demand driven product. Not too many folks out there that do this process from what I have gathered. I told him I'd be interested in having around 15 of the McLaren grille chrome plated at a discount but they never got back with me. I guess it wasn't enough "volume" for them.
