I have heard many people talk about how 2008 is going to be as bad as, if not worse than 1929. Is the economy really that bad? Is it time to panic?

yes it will get bad, nothing like 1929 other than your money will only get you half of what it did a year ago..

Some old timers are saying it worst then 1929. What I read about 1929 I don't thank so. YET

My grandpa always said tie a knot in your rope and hang on it's not over yet.

No way it's worse than the Great Depression. Recession and Depression are two totally different things. Granted it took a little while for the Depression to set in, the stock market hasn't crashed.

The stock market hasn't crashed ??? are you sure GM stock 4.65 Ford 2.65 haven't been that low seance 1921. Sterling semi truck mfg. will quite building them in March 2009 and close two plants.Trucking has gone to He** .Look around you. If it hasn't crashed it's because we bailed them out with 800 billion dollar. Now President Bush wants us to go into the banking business.
Remember the savings and loan bail out?

Considering this has gone global, I think its bad.

Notice gas has gone down instead of climbing and now everything is getting f*cked?

Panic? Not yet, it will level out again.

yes it is that bad!!!!! 2007 marked the first time in 25 yrs my brothers print shop is in the RED !!! 2008 is looking worse for us

No.
Things are bad and will get a bit worse. But they aren't Great Depression bad. And if everyone keeps a level head, they'll correct themselves.

PRESUMING the Federal government doesn't get involved, engage in a power grab, and functionally PROLONG the economic down turn as they did under FDR.

Yes, that's correct. FDRs economic policy EXTENDED the length of the great depression. Because of this, while the rest of the world had recovered from the global depression, the United States was still experiencing it. Ultimately, the U.S. didn't pull out of it until WW2.

Let's all try to prevent a panic and the resulting huge federal power grab and expansion of size in response.

Basically WW2 converting back to warfare economy was the thing that saved our asses.
