Is the stock crossover functional ????

Behind the resonators ? I bought some mufflers I'm going to weld in tonight, and I was going to add a crossover. I bought a new universal x pipe from borla, and when I got under there theres not enough room for the X with the bends that they gave me to use and I dont want to fuss with it, an H pipe will be ALOT easier, but is that crossover behind the resonators funtional or is it a brace ? If it's funtional I'm not even going to add a crossover. I got some flowmasters and I'm going to keep the stock resonators in the middle so it shouldnt be too bad, I'll post up some video when I'm finished.

Its a brace. Pay the bucks and get 2.5" piping made.

does the non-functional crossover apply to the 2003 and up cars as well?

No. The '03-'06 LSes have a functional crossover in the rear cat (where the two sides of the exhaust meet in the transmission tunnel).

I believe that the functional crossover on the 03+ LS V8 is a 2-1-2 resonator. I have never seen it listed as a catalytic converter. It is listed as part of the converter assembly.

The "H" pipe is functional. It just isn't as beneficial as an "X" pipe.

I was told by a reputable source that the housing around the crossover that looks like a catalytic converter is, in fact, a 3rd cat...

most of us moved to an x-pipe to pull every little bit of hp out of the design.
