Luckily, I am out of town right now and do not have to be subjected to this crap, but how exactly is anyone supposed to help these MTA workers, when they are taking illegal action that is screwing the whole city?

Does misery truly love company? How exactly making working and living conditions worse for 8 million people, the way to get people to recognize and do something about their own working conditions? If they have no problem screwing up our daily life, why should anyone give a damn about their conditions?

This strike is costing the city tens of million per day, the union itself is going to be fined one million dollars per day, every worker out on strike is going to lose 2 days pay for every day they are out, and millions are left with far less effective means of transportation, or none at all. People and families, left out in the cold, and even if the union "wins", they lose, and everybody loses. The social and economic losses will not be recovered, and Christmas will be ruined for many families.

Next time I see a transit worker whining about their work conditions, I'm just going to think about the REAL New Yorkers freezing their butts off in the cold instead.

Screw a union. I was in the Teamsters for a brief period. Until I realized they suck my money from my check for no friggand reason what so ever.

Somtimes that is the only course of action a Union can take!!!

Do you have any idea what they are illegally striking over? I get the impression that you've come to this story late and aren't too interested in the details.

Besides the fact this strike is completely illegal, the fines are goin to bankrupt the union, and that every member of the leadership should spend Christmas in jail, they are making completely unreasonable demands, they are using their monopolistic position to black mail the city.

If it doesn't look like this strike will be broken in the next few days, the Governor should fire every damn one of them and break the union.

Boy, you really don't know much about unions to make that statement.

Unions are supposed to represent their membership's best interests. Nowadays all they represent are their own interests in keeping membership up. That involves creating conflicts where there are none, and sticking it to the ownership whenever possible. Often that results in putting a company out of business or ripping off the members.

I was a member of the NPWU for 8 years.

The AVERAGE ticket taker in NYC makes $51,000/year PLUS bennies.

The latest offer is 3%, 4% and 3.5% wage increase over the next 3 years but they (workers) would now have pay a higher percentage into their retirement accounts.

They are upset because that additional pay in will require them to work past the age of 55, which is the age at which they expect to be able to RETIRE!

A frikkin ticket taker wants to retire at 55 so they are putting alot of people thru misery for their selfish desires. I'd fire them all, just like Reagan did. Let them start over. This is an illegal action and they are putting alot of people at risk in the middle of winter. Bust the union NOW.

Wrecking the daily lives of 8 million New Yorkers and 22 million others from other states is the only course they can take? breaking the law is the only course of action they can take?

I think you really need to re-examine what the purpose of a Union is. A union is not a terrorist cell. It is not supposed to hold a city hostage to get what it wants. It is supposed negotiate for the best interests of the employees. Commiting crimes to extort a city into forcing action against the MTA is totally and completely wrong, both legally and morally.

Don't worry about Pepperman. He's really Mespock in disguise: Slash and burn, flash-in-the-pan.

I know I am close.

Now remember, this info is coming from the NYT, the bible when it comes to media news. They are never wrong and never make anything up and they are not biased in anyway whatsover.

From the NYT.

Union members voted this weekend to give T.W.U. leaders the power to call a strike at 12:01 a.m. Friday, after the current three-year contract expires. The union is seeking a 24 percent raise over three years, saying that significant pay increases are necessary because raises in the current contract trailed inflation. Before overtime, the transit workers' base pay averages $47,000.

The unions did. And now their annual pay is $00,000.00 per year, thanks to the strike. Aren't unions wonderful?

I'm not siding with these guys one bit because they've :q:q:q:qed me and every other NYer over the last few days, but 47k in NYC isn't a lot of money. Everything is more expensive here.

But whatever, it's finally friggin' over. Thank the effin' Lord!
