And was thinking about doing something to increase the airflow through my car. It was suggested that I get a cold air intake along with headers and a catback.

Can you guys help me out and give me a quick explanation of what exactly headers and a catback do? I've only got a rough idea and am currently trying to learn more about the two.

I'm new here by the way, so hello. I have just recently come into ownership of a '95 Mark VIII and am in love with it. :)

Actually if you get headers, you will also need to get new catalytic convertors as well because one of the factory ones is actually welded to the factory exhaust manifold. You will essetially end up with a totally new exhaust....just wanted to add that before the explanation.

What headers and cat-back exhaust does is allow the engine to exhaust the spent gasses faster than it can thru the stock exhaust system. It will also increase HP a bit because of the free flowing capabilities as compared to the stock system. Here is a good definition of what headers do, and how they work.

Hope that helps....and :W.

Another thing I forgot to mention:

What are some of the better brand names out there whose products I should look at?

There are a VERY few ppl that make custom full length headers, but most of them are either behind, or they are not making them any longer. There is only one company out there that makes them, and that company is Kooks. Right now the only place you can get them is from SuperCoupe Performance. Supposedly Lincoln Motorsports is trying to work on a group buy, but not sure how that is working out.

With the rest of the exhaust, that is totally up to you. There is a few guys out there that sell a complete cat-back system for the Mark VIII which include everything except the catalytic convertors that will be needed when you go with a new set of headers. One place is Lincoln Motorsport and the other is Accelerated Race Technology. If you do not go with those, you can have any decent exhaust place fab you up the necessary pipes with the headers/mufflers/catalytic convertors that you choose.

If you go to those websites I have provided, you will see other performance parts that you will not only need/want for the exhaust, but also for the rest of the car.

Hope they help a bit.

Borlas weight a ton, over priced and over rated imho. Heres the commercial for the Lincolnmotorsport exhaust:

Click here to view, turn UP your volume!!!!!!!!

That's got to be the best muffler commercial I have ever seen in my life.

I wonder how those would sound with some Kook's headers... Maybe I'll have to try. It's time for the Mark to start sounding mean.

 $158 shipped for a pair of Pro XS to my door. Weighed a lot less than my stock mufflers...

Did you get the 60027's? That were on clearance. That price is awful cheap.
Our mufflers combined weigh 16lbs.

They sound vicious with Kooks. The guy who guinea pigged his Mark for the Kooks project has our system and it sounded bada$$!!!!!!!!!

Nope, 40348's (2.5's). I think these are now obsolete, replaced with the inferior XR1 series...

Thats exactly our intention when we set out to do a cat back for the Mark. Did you watch the movie and see our slogan at the end "They won't know your coming, but they WILL hear you leaving"

Only LOUD when provoked, the way it should be.

so if i only do a cat back system that's what i'll get? will it sound good with just a cat back kit. will it have that drone some have? or should i install duals?

Our system is true dual. You would have o get them pipes in locally. We supply detailed pictures and instructions, LMS XpansionX SS lifetime warrantied mufflers with tips of your choice pre installed and the LMS xx pipe for $337.00.

how much for mufflers without tips? with the detailed pics and instructions?

I have a question about mufflers. Im thinking about just buying new mufflers(not full exhaust) what would be some good replacement mufflers that would sound good with the y pipe.
