Jacking up car ?

I deserve the title idiot for this :

So believe it or not I've never had to jack this car up before . Most of the time if I have to get some work done on the underside of the car my buddy lets me use his lift and the rest is history .

Decided I was going to change the oil today . Took a look at the instructions which didn't look all that right as far as notching the jack . I took a look at the frame rails and what I saw was those two sets of holes on the frame which I imagine thats what the instructions are talking about . If this is the place where the jack is placed then its impossible since I have a subframe connector kit . Am I missing something ? Any help would be great . I took a look at my brothers car and my 89 and noticed theres a slotted piece of metal where on my car thats gone and the subframe kit now sits . My jack has had it , and I'd like to use my two ton shop jack but can't see where I could fit the cup . :tmi:

Ride the biatch up some ramps. Drain both sumps. But both bolts back on. Take the oil filter off. Fill new filter up 1/4 the way, maybe half. (Just depends.) Screw it on. Fill the engine with 4 quarts including the half quart you didn't put in the fitle. Start it up. get it off the ramps. Check the oil after engine had been running 1 min or so. (Shut it off first. . .) You should be ready to go. I use a K&N on Sifrino. Since it is my baby. Also, she takes another quart. . . Chrome oil pan. I guess it is larger. . .
 
Took the words right out of my mouth .Buddy of mine is lending me his ramps , didn't know why I didn't think of that in the beginning . So do you jack right underneath where the door makes its curve down towards the bottom ? thats where I was told to jack it up at . Kind of interesting with a floor jack since the cup looked like it was gonna slip off .

Ramps it is .

And I do know what to do once the cars up =)

Thats mainly what I was trying to figure out . Its not rocket science but just wanted to make sure . Better safe then sorry .
 
There is a notch in the rail that is designed for the stock scissor jack to sit in for jacking. Just use caution and common sense.
 
That little flange and notches on mine are pretty well crushed from using different jacks, but it's a good spot to put one.. except that the door alignment is tweaked when it's lifted from there and I wonder what might happen to alignment if it's lifted too far.

When changing oil i use a floor jack under the center of the cross member.
 
You have a point there .

I was told to never position a Floor Jack's cup where the emergency scissor jack usually slots in . Simply it'll buck out everytime . Crossmember is the way to go . Whether or not this is a factory approved jackspot is anybody's guess .

Also searched around online and came up with some interesting facts . Apparently the Floor Jacks , usually found at Advanced Auto Parts , Track Auto , Pep Boys and Auto Zone are only really made to lift the your car up a dozen times before theres a chance of hydraulic failure even with jack stands applied after lifting . News to me !

This paranoid rambling to me is called Preventative Maitenance. Not all of us can afford a Goodyear run flat system so why not have a plan implemented ?

Scissor jack in the car right now isn't cutting it , and I've considered removing the subwoofer to put a full size spare in .

I've had bad luck with Bottle Jacks , Scissor Jacks and Floor Jacks . Lifted up my Old White Cutlass to change the oil only to have the hyd.fluid slowly leak out and drop the car on me while underneath . Good thing I was thin and had time to squeeze out before it completely dropped which it did .

No offense man, but you should NEVER go under a car with only the jack holding it up. It's common knowledge to use jack STANDS before even thinking about getting under the car.

For regular jacking you are best off using your jack stands on the subframe.

This was a while ago trust me . You'd be surprised how many people don't use jack stands .

So what about jack points for a floor jack ? Crossmember ?
