Hello everyone. I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I have been lurking in these boards for quite sometime. This is my second LS, first time for the V8. It has the usual problems associated with this car. Got it with a misfire on cylinder 1, and I could smell it leaking coolant.
I am currently doing:
1. complete cooling system overhaul including Degas.
2. Intake manifold gaskets.
3. Valve cover gaskets (w/ vct seals)
4. New Cops
5. New Plugs
6. Fuel Filter

As I have started tearing into it, I'm sure I will have some questions. As I know how irrating it is when the search button isn't used, I will do my best to research the problem I encounter before posting any questions. These forums (especially this one) have been invaluable to me. I wanted to introduce myself as well as give my gratitude for all the help.

Hehe so many think the 'noobs' don't listen. I think the ones that care are like Thornhill, they quietly lurk then come in and announce full redo lists. Then there is those of course coming and wanting to mod it, run it on the cheap or maybe even unpressurized coolant system. :p I should have lurked, maybe would have saved me some heartache on my Gen1 lol.

Welcome! Holler if you head out towards the L.A. Beaches.

Thank for all the welcomes. First question. I can't seem to find any info on this. In regards to the intake manifold. Are these prone to cracking like the 4.6 or does the mold make it seem that way? I am attaching a couple of pics of what I am talking about.

Greetings Thorn,
That's just the way the intake is made. Has to be some sort of molding inlay. Sure I've seen that before.

GLWR's

with molding I believe it's called a parting line. you could trim off the flash and there might be a couple people here that have painted theirs

No, they don't crack (unless bolted in with the wrong torque and/or sequence). There have been some cases of the seals between the plastic part and the metal parts hardening and failing. Those are hard to find and expensive, but available. (RTV has been used too)

Those are the gaskets. I wouldn't really call them upper intake gaskets since the V8 really only has the one intake, unlike the V6.

Excellent just wanted to be sure. Btw Price wise I got them for $8 and change...Compared to the vct seals which I think were $12 EACH!
