Really couldn't find this via search, so here it goes.

My 2006 LS had a clean white light (maybe 4300k), but didn't have projectors so I highly doubt it had HIDs (did they really put HIDs in a reflector housing from the factory). What do these cars run for factory bulbs?

did they really put HIDs in a reflector housing from the factory

tons of cars do this... the reflector just has to be tuned/designed for the HID bulb and its slightly different point of light

also opening the hood should show you a warning sticker on each light telling you that it does have HIDs...

also you can tell by looking at the light whiles its on, non HID bulbs (well actually the reflectors) make a round light, but the HID lights make a more flat light (doesn't look round)

Good stuff. I no longer own the car and was shopping for lights for my truck and know better than to throw HIDs in a reflective housing. Really was just seeing how my LS got away with doing it. Thanks everyone.

There's no problem at all putting a HID in a reflective housing that is designed for a HID. There are big problems with putting a HID in a reflective housing designed for a halogen. (While no one does this, it would be nearly as bad to put a halogen in a housing designed for a HID.) If you look at the LS headlight assemblies, you can see that the reflectors for the ones with HIDs are very different than the reflectors for the ones with halogens.

If you are going to retrofit aftermarket HIDs to a car with halogen headlights, the only decent way to do it is with projectors.

Yes sir, I'll do retrofits one day, but right now there are way more pressing things that a 300-400 set of headlights.

From what I have seen, D1S bulbs go into projector housings and D1R bulbs go into reflector housings. As mentioned above, HID projector housings have a different light pattern to non-HID housings.
