K&N typhoon intake vs stock with a Conical filter

I sold my K&N intake system because just attaching a large conical filter at end of intake and putting a 4inch flexible plastic gutter tube from lower grill up has made the throttle response noticeably more than the K&N? and has the same sound!? 03 v8 Premium sport pkg
