A friend of mine was in the Navy in the '50s/'60s, and he told me about one of his shipmates who had something similar happen. Apparently, every time he'd get into port at San Fran, he'd go pick up some random gay guy at a bar, then get him into an alley and beat the crap out of him and take his money. This worked until he picked on one who was trained in the martial arts--my friend said the sailor got the ass-whipping of his life that day, and didn't try queer mugging again...
