Been a busy couple weeks. My new kitchen has slowly been coming together. We set it up at a local trade show as a display about a week and a half ago (first weekend in March). Took it down last Sunday, ripped out old cabinets Mon-Tues evenings, sold and loaded up the old cabinets on Wed. evening, and installed new cabinetry ALL DAY Thursday.

This damn remodel is really starting to take effect. Now I'm replacing flooring and lighting, since they look terrible next to the new cabinets. The entire wall between the countertop and upper cabinets will be a glass and travertine linear brick tile (each tile is 5/8" tall x 2", 4", or 6" random pattern). That's showing up this week, and installed shortly after. Flooring has to be done before the end of the month.

Anyways, enough blabbering. Here's the before pics. Old cabinets were builder grade, and 22 years old:

Progress pics in next post.

And after cabinets/tops installed. I'll be finishing the crown moulding tomorrow. Island has Alaska White granite. Perimeter counter is a Wilsonart HD laminate. The hood is not permanently mounted yet. Just have it hung on the wall (yes I know it's not quite level) so it doesn't get damaged while I wait for tile.

The new upper cabinets are 36" tall, to fit closer to the ceiling. I extended the sink countertop and cabinets to add a garbage cabinet, and to relocate the microwave.

Of course, the fridge looked TERRIBLE in the new kitchen, so this got delivered late Saturday night. Whirlpool Gold, ice maker in the bottom freezer drawer (I didn't want the ice dispenser in the door anymore):

Oh, and for some reason, the new cabinets all look black. They are actually an espresso stain on maple.

Looks great love the refrigerator
Little to modern for me though.
Sorry to say it but your stove looks dated now too.

Shhhh! The gf might hear you! :shifty:

She's the reason I had to buy the fridge (an extra $1600 to an already expensive project) and all new flooring (another $1400). Maybe I'll see what the money situation is after the Mexico trip in April.

Honestly, since I work in the industry, I wanted something dramatic and unique. Everyone has oak, rustic hickory, or cherry around here, and only in rustic or traditional styles. I am a large fan of the ultra modern simplistic styling, so I'm in love with everything so far.

Light above the sink was replaced yesterday. Found a light to replace the fan today. Pending approval from the boss, I'll be installing it Wednesday.

I may steal a stove from work. :)

Quite a dramatic change, and a great one at that. It looks awesome...although to be honest your old cabinets looked to have held up well considering their age and quality!

Thanks, man. Yeah, the guy who bought the old cabinets got a great deal. All the old cabinets (center island was a custom unit), and near new countertops - for $800. I was going to donate them to ReStore ( A Habitat for Humanity outfit), but someone asked me at a trade show if I ever sell any used cabinets. I was tearing mine out the next day, told him $1000, and he jewed me down to $800. I wasn't really concerned though. I didn't have to haul them anywhere, and it was money towards the new fridge.

So it's slowly coming together. Flooring installed on Friday, tile guy was here today, and I finished swapping out the kitchen light just now. Tile guy comes back tomorrow for grout, then it's almost done. Teaser pic of the progress so far. Have to remount the hood after grouting:

Thanks, guys. Hopefully I get everything put back together soon.

Looks REALLY good except for the back splash going all the way up to the ceiling.

Thats to frame the wall mount stainless hood that goes up to the ceiling. That will be reinstalled after the grout.

Thats a big change, it looks great.

So thats where you've been lately huh. Disappeared on lvc for a good while

Wow man, I wondered where you have been.

Kitchen looks great. The rail lighting up top is cool - I'd maybe add a couple more lights projecting towards the fridge side of the kitchen, kind of dark over there.

The dark cabinets is great. Still not sure what is going on with the yellowish color in the window area?

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Much appreciated :D

Driz, the window is still the original color. One thing at a time. I get home from work at around 6pm, then cook dinner, then work on the house a little before getting the kids to sleep. Slowly but surely it will get there!

Pektel, that looks really nice. What brand cabinets are the new ones?

I'm in the industry, and have dealt with many cabinet lines. This one is very affordable, and offers many upgrades to make them a quality cabinet. Solid wood dovetail drawers with full extension undermount soft-close glides, all plywood construction, lifetime warranty.

The brand is Mid Continent Cabinetry. Copenhagen door style, Espresso finish on Maple. I added lots of interior accessories too. I'll post up some high res pics of everything as soon as the hood is remounted. I also did some things different like inverting the pantry cabinet (a standard pantry cabinet has the big door on the bottom. I had them invert the face frame), the microwave cabinet with liquor cabinet above, a drawer that stores my plates/bowls via use of pegs, pull out spice cabinet, etc.

The cabinet handles are from Italy, sold through Schaub hardware. If it weren't for me having an account with them, and getting special pricing, I would've never bought them. They retail for $15-30 EACH

Granite island is Alaska White, perimeter counters are Wilsonart HD laminate, in a custom edge profile. The restaurant style faucet is a Mirabelle Presidio. Frig is a Whirlpool Gold. Range hood is a Zephyr Roma with 600cfm blower.
