I have read a few posts regarding this issue on this forum. A lot of boxes being designed / built. Has anyone tried an aftermarket heat shield? They are very abundant. Am I missing something? Just checking. Thanks

TG,
There are many LS'ers here who have fabbed a heat shield...
Do a search on Heat Shield and limit the search to the Lincoln LS forum.

Here is one provided by a member a while back.

I have seen those threads. But my questions is, why go through all that work, when aftermarket companies make heat shields for conical intakes.

when aftermarket companies make heat shields for conical intakes.
It's not that... It's having the heat shield be able to fit into the unusual space that the cone goes in and actually SHIELD the hot engine heat from hitting the filter.

Sure there are tons of companies that make the shields, but not one specific to the dimensions of the LS

no - it will not restrict airflow - but likely does not prevent hot air form the engine bay getting in either....

the better sheld 'seal' off the cone from the engine bay - and then allow air to enter that sealed space from the outside.

even the stock intake does this.

I used a pipe flashing from Home Depot. It is made of a sturdy bu flexable blacl plastic. I then cut it to fit in right behind the filter. It stays in place on its own and seals out all the heat from the engine. i noticed that i can now touch the filter top after driving my car, so it seems to be doing the job. I am sorry I don't have any pictures but a few of the guys from the West Coast LLSOC have said that it looks like a factory item, it does match the plastic in the engine bay very well. I will try to get some pictures of it soon, in the car and oput of the car.

I have that template at my house. I was looking at making those a while back but got side tracked. Someone on LLSOC bought a nice shield on eBay and put it on their KKM unit. Maybe they'll chime in and post a picture.

Any chance of you emailing me a better pic of that template? I just ordered a cai off one of the guys here and would love to make a nice heatshield for it. My email is m_kokolsky@hotmail.com

I had one of those on my Bonneville SSEi supercharged before I sold it after I got my LS. Took it off because It was soaking up as much heat as it was suppossed to be blocking. When it got hot, you couldn't touch it. Some sort of plastic or composite material would be tons better.
