Hello everyone last weekend i bought a nice 1994 mark viii that has a few issues. The engine is running pretty rough at all rpms but smoother at higher rpm. I went and pulled the codes today, it flashed code 225 for knock sensors failing to be found with the engine running. I performed the koeo and koer test. I'm still waiting for my factory service manual to come in the mail so the procedure i used was from the manual i have left over from my 1990 ranger that also had an eec-iv pcm. I was reading on here about other tests that i am not sure how to execute, someone was talking about a goose test and a cylinder balance test. If someone could tell me what those are that would be great. Any input on other common causes of an engine condition such as this would be wonderful. I saw that the gen 1 cars had common idle air control valve failures so that's another possibility. The computer calculated mileage at 9.4mpg so this needs to be fixed soon.

Have you done basic maintenance like plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter , pcv? You can pick up used knock sensors cheap i bet. You might have chaffed a wire.

I haven't tuned it up yet, i am going to replace a bunch of wear parts this week. I'll probably go through and check for vacuum leaks when i change the plugs and wires. Already found one vacuum leak where the eatc line broke off at the manifold. Wires for these cars are expensive i am used to spending 20 bucks on a set for push rod motors. The car doesn't seem to have been maintained the serpentine belt is so loose it cut a groove in the timing cover and killed my battery because the alternator wasn't turning.
