Southwest Kicks Thin Woman off Flight
By Alice Wolke | MYFOXDFW.COM
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The airline that made headlines for removing an overweight passenger from a flight now has done it again -- but this time, the offending passenger weighed just 110 pounds.
Dallas-based Southwest Airlines confirmed that last week, airline representatives removed the 5-foot, 4-inch woman flying standby from Las Vegas to Sacramento.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the woman had just settled in the last available seat only to be told she'd have to get off the plane, because an overweight passenger who needed two seats had just arrived late.
When the standby passenger, a frequent flier, began to protest, she says she was berated by the crew.
Southwest admits its policy is to ask for volunteers to give up their seats, and says it intends to apologize to the woman.
The overweight passenger was just 14 years old, and that may have been why the airline staff may have been in a hurry to get the extra seat, according to the paper.
